Printed 2019 regs?

Has anyone been able to obtain a printed version of the 2019 fishing regs yet?
Yes...I know they are available online as an electronic version.

I am talking about the hard copy version supplied with a licence purchase.


Purchased my licence but the retailer said no print copies of the regs are available.

every year its like this i looked all over town for it till one of the cashiers told me they are behind again. no retailer has them yet.

The government doesn't print the regulations. Not saying the government isn't at fault for providing the necessary information to the publisher in a timely fashion...….but I don't know that. The publisher of the AB hunting/fishing regulations is the owner of this website/forum if I am not mistaken.

Not suprised at all. I can't find them anywhere in central alberta either. Bahaha what a joke. Make a bunch of draconian changes and not have the paper to print it on.

ok here is an update everyone on the physical copies of the fishing regs for 2019. i just called the fish and wildlife office in calgary on 12 st ne and spoke with a lady and they received and email stating the fishing regs for this season will not be printed/available till after the elections. WTF right???? the lady i spoke with was also very surprised and confused by this. so she said the only current option is to get it online and print it off.

Why are you guys upset over not having a printed copy?

Do the common sense stuff, that you already know, or at least should know.

Check online specifically for some info on a body of water, or something specific if you need it.

Im starting to think they do this on purpose so they can write as many tickets as possible. Not everyone has reception everywhere they fish so without the printed copies they might not know better.


I also find those new charts hard to read on my phone screen. Plus its nice to pull out the regs when the officer threatens to write a ticket for something your actually allowed to do. I like to keep a few copies in my truck to give out to people who might not be totally aware of the current regs, which happens from time to time.

ghostguy6 this is kinda why i like having the physical copies too as i sometimes or most of the time get sidetracked to a different lake and would like to have the regs to do research on the fly when required.

Laws and bylaws and regulations change all the time, and not just for hunting and fishing.

But you don’t carry the Criminal code with you.
Or provincial statutes, or municipal bylaws.

Things change from one province and city to another.

You don’t carry around a copy of the Charter of rights.

Driving laws and regs change too, but you don’t carry a training manual.

And so on and so on.

Yet the hard copy of fishing Regulations is unavailable and guys lose their minds.

Perhaps I am an advertiser that paid to promote my service or product in that document. The online regs do not contain the ads....only the 40 MB pdf version does...which, I submit, few will download.

Either the holdup is with the publisher...or the government.

Were it me, I would have asked at time of ad submission, the, when I could expect to see a copy question and were I given a date now past, I would call and ask for a follow-up on the many dollars spent in a free publication.

They aren't publishing the regs until after the election. I was told this at the Edmonton boat show and because it is supposedly due to the ministerial comment section.

If you look at the online regs you will notice that section is missing, will be interesting to see if it gets added after the election.

Just a bunch of BS. Maybe do your job and stop worrying about the election, fishing regs should have nothing to do with politics...

It is standard procedure that during the election period all gov't communications are suspended. Nothing confusing about it at all.

I was told by a lady in Canadian Tire that Notley ordered to use all printing resources for the campain and so regs will be available around June.

As a former Print Manager that actually had the contract to print the Regs - it was very common to get approvals to print late which made it very challenging to schedule a large publication. Its not just the printing that has to be coordinated, there is pre press, bindery and shipping to plan out as well. When the presses had dailies and weeklies to schedule around you had to fit in these type of publications in and around them. The only other thing that Trumped everyone were Election flyers.

The Gov doesn't have its own separate printing press that sits and waits for this to be printed. it has to be contracted out to whomever that can accept that contract at that time.

And right now printing presses are becoming fewer and fewer thanks to the lovely world of internet and social media. My kids will never see a phone book in their life which was one of the hugest contracts 15 years ago.

You could always ask them where to send the printing bill to and go print it at someone like staples.

Maybe we need the rule to make it mandatory to have a printed copy when fishing in your possession like in some states to fix this oversight.

Maybe the NDP if re-elected are going to outlaw fishing and hunting province wide . Any thing is possible with them, remember the carbon levy, surprise, surprise. It's time to put the NDP out of our misery!

Well....it's not a printing problem...

Stopped at a local retailer today...the cashier said that they didn't get the printed version of the regs yet.....but they just got a stack of single page handouts from the government that states "the regs are available online"

They didn't seem to have any problem getting those printed...
