Taber area. We are in the banana belt. I believe we have the most sunny days in Alberta. A good reason the Taber corn grows so well.

Dale S, I was pretty happy with the state of my garden...Until your pictures loaded. Looking great. Did you need a pickaxe to break the frost for those spuds?

Dale wins.

Mine looks poor compared to his. Peas and carrots are the only things I'd call good at this point, everything else moving pretty slowly.

Issues with my Brussels sprouts. Leaves cupping. Google says bugs or fungus. I’ve scoped them and don’t see bugs. Any ideas?soil is a mix of compost and peat. I’ve tried different locations full sun and a mix of shade. Didn’t change anything.

Awesome. I’m a couple of weeks for the radish. Everything looks good but the green onions are having issues. Might be too much rain for those guys. Tomatoes starting to increase height every day and dark green. Love gardening

been waiting for the hail to post pics, so far all the storms have bypassed my yard. JINX Corn is doing great, green yellow and purple beans should be flowering soon, zuchinni and spaghetti squash starting to fruit (rather eat small zuchs anyways) my tomatos outdoors already knee high except the one my yard fox dug up to get at the carp I should have buried further away. Strawberries I split in spring ended up with 80 or 90 plants, some doing good others getting robbed daily by the yard fox or the damn robins. Havnt made rhubarb wine for a few years, stuff has been flowering for probably 2 months already I just let it go most of the time. my watermelons are starting to travel, the Mollys groundcherries I decided to try are doing great, hopefully not too great grapes are going insane as usual I dont even use them just leave for the birds but they are good windblockers. Gold raspberries mixed in with the grapes, have to hit them all with the machete one day I guess. tomatos in my new greenhouse already fruiting as well as the strawberries I hung on the posts for weight and the zuch in there, but they dont really like the tropical temperatures. I dont usually plant both gardens but this year with all going on I did, I figured what my kids and I cant use the foodbank certainly will be able to this year. tried onions from seed for the first and last time this year, the rainbow chard is great and looks awesome in the frying pan, spinach is great too. may have more in there I cant remember. dont usually even plant til July but so much time to kill with my concussion this spring I decided to giver. just takes a whole lot longer with all the rest breaks but it keeps me sorta sane. BTW I hate weeds!!!!! green carpet all over 10 minutes after watering.

garden dreams was the first reason I loved this place when I saw it. starting to happen also put in a bunch of fruit trees. If anyone is interested in awesome greenhouse tarp thats bird and cat proof PM me I wont advertise for them here. did my 10 by 20 for a whole 250 bucks in one piece. plus its diffuse so it doesnt burn plants as easy. still gets hot as hades especially down here even with vents and a fan but so far they love it

According to the Farmers Almanac, Crowsnest Pass has a 26 day (yes 26) growing season. My wife does miracles with what she grows here. Raised gardens and pots against a heat sink work best here

I have several 5 gallon water jugs, filled them with water at the beginning of the season and pulled a black garbage back over them, keeps an amazing amount of heat to release at night. should probably empty them now its hot enough in there!

Garden is doing very poorly this last couple years.

Bad seed stock.

Only thing doing well are the Taters & Onions.

The little that did come up are small & bug eaten for the other plants.

This is my first year growing Fall garlic. It seems to be doing well and scapes are starting to grow. I have to do a little internet searching but I figured that I'd post here. After harvesting the scapes, do I cut or bend the stalks over so all of the energy goes to the bulb?

Too much rain! Our peppers are starting to get that brown rot on the bottoms from too much water. All of our radishes have to come out tomorrow because they are starting to rot as well. On the upside, everything else seems to be doing well and the potatoes being grown in tires should produce a good yield.

^^ is that because your planters don’t have a good drainage and the soil retains too much water?

Default July 9

all the rain is making the gardens go nutso, I usually put my tomatos in the ground first week of July, started earlier this year and managed to miss any frost for a change.
corn is almost waist high at least some of them, green yellow and purple beans will be flowering soon the spaghetti squash going nuts as always, usually end up sneaking out onto my lawn so they get pruned with the riding mower Yellow zuchs coming along, have green in the other garden. greenhouse tomatos going good, even the romas are huge. watermelons in the other garden are starting to run so hopefully do as well as last time I grew them. first tomato pic is paste tomatos, supposed to hit a couple pounds each. I have cherry toms and slicers as well. I figure the way all the hailstorms miss town if I chase them for pics it may be the only way to go!

No don't bend them over like onions. They are ready to harvest when the lower half of the leaves on the plant die off. You can always dig down and expose the bulb to see how big it is without disturbing the roots then cover it back up if not big enough for you liking. Nice looking garlic!
