Default Hunting in WMU 512

We have hunted moose in this unit for 27 years but for last 3 years have been unable to draw a tag . The area we hunt is NE of Slave on a private oil road that runs 80 km to an oil plant .access is just north of Slave Lake off Hwy 88 . We have heard that the oil plant is closed down and the road may be shut down and reclaimed
Can anybody familiar with the area provide and info . We are 6 hrs away trying to avoid having a recce before we put in for the draw

Do you mean wmu 511?

512 is north of wandering river.

Are you referring to the Martin Hills road?

Thats a main and wouldn't be closed.

Default Wmu 511

You are correct it is 511 and is the Martin Hills road but I was lead to believe it privately maintained and not part of the provincial system. I contacted wildlife up there ,secretary said officer would get back to me but a week
later no reply

The Martin Hills road is not going to be shut down. It is a major road in the area. It services far more than the oil plant, including logging, and a bunch of traplines. I have no idea who maintains it these days but it used to be the County.

CNRL owns the Marten Hills road.

I never knew that and I lived in Slave Lake and spent a lot of time on that road. Learn something new every day. I still don't think it will be shut down.

I haven’t been up there for a little bit but I heard the opposite
That’s it’s busy as hell
Tons of traffic, Tons of road hunters and tons of “locals”

Lots of wolves
Not that much of anything else anymore

Moose have been scarce in that area for the past 5 years. So many wolves in the Marten Hills...

I'd try your luck in 510, seem to have really good numbers and I believe the priority was a 3 last time I checked.
