I had 5 7mm STW at one time and I love this cartridge. All are Sakos and Coopers. Reloading helps big time and I dropped bull elk at 653 yards, coyote sitting on hay bale at 910 yards and many many deer between 500-843 yards. All of my STWs are topped by Nightforce scope.
If you are looking for long range caliber with knock down power over the distance then this is it.....

just havin some fun, this place pretty dry and boring😏
in agreement on the light bullet/high capacity powder train of thought. with all the interweb info out there you would think it more common knowledge these days that velocity only outruns mass for so long; and i would assume people running powder thirsty cartridges are trying to shoot long; not intermediate ranges.
but i've been out of touch before.....

We could some of us aren't that keen about the labotamy involved though....
Couldn't really see using anything lighter than a 162 in a magnum 7mm unless the quest was to try to turn a coyote inside out or something maybe.

I think the 7 STW is a great go Chuck; 150grs at 3400fps will give a forgiving reach and imagine all that kinetic, hydroshockyness. The animal will desire to lay down and expire at the thought of the tidal wave that will happen when you use one of those explode-o-bullets that necessarily leaves all of its energy inside an animal.
All that aside when I think STW I imagine open foothills slopes on the eastern edge of the Rockies.
On the 300 WM note, I've gotten 150gr TTSXS to fly equally as fast out of 26" tubes with no issue. So.....

I'm still curious as to why you sold the Mashburn? I thought you found Rifle nirvana with it .

I buy and sell rifles. A bunch of them. The Mashburn is a great round. I have no complaints about it.

At the range years ago, I tried a few shots from a STW while the owner tried my 338WM. My perception was that the recoil was about the same. The STW was sharper, but lighter, while the 338 was heavier, but slower.
I was using a Ruger 77MKII shooting Winchester 230gr Failsafes and he was shooting 175gr Partitions. Rifles weighed about the same.
Just my 2 cents.

Not at all. I believe that gravity will have its effect on all the idjits that believe in man-made climate change if they like it or not. I also think gravity has its effect on broneys and Liberals too.

I had a STW in a Sendero years ago that I wish I had not sold. Was a very accurate gun. As far as making comparisons between the STW and 300 WM why are most people listing such light bullets? With the bullets available to us now I would run a 180 or a 195 gr Berger in the STW. In my 300 WM the 215 Berger is a hard combo to beat. You got the horsepower why not use it?

While I doubt the OP ever asks a question without knowing the answer.
For a more right answer number 3 from the left.

L to R my guess is 7mm-08, 7mm RUM, 7mm STW, 7mm Rem Mag and 7mm Warbird.
Just a guess though.

I think the first one on the left is a saum or wsm, and I have no clue what the one on the far right is.

7 SAUM
7-375 RUGER
7-300 WIN MAG
7 REM MAG
7 RUM
7-300 win is a nice case a 7 stw is not.

Of course you are correct.
Long conversations that yet again you know the answers to about what bullet OAL jump crush kiss expected velocity are of course at the end very boring.
While you ponder the next question really ask yourself did you help kill the internet?

What is your problem gopher?
I asked a question of actual users of the 7mm STW (of which you aren't) and received some good answers from people who know what they are talking about. I'm also not sure what OAL has to do with this conversation nor the 7 mm practical for that matter.
Isn't there a bridge missing it's downstairs tenant somewhere? Please troll your own threads.

Nope no problem here.
Had a STW its long gone.
Asking me about OAL!
Who is trolling who?
Am I really to sit here typing this to have you believe that I don’t believe you don’t think OAL matters?

Again. OAL has nothing to do with my question. Go away.

We did mention heavier bullets, but when I had mind some 18 years ago,i had the hornady vol 1 which went up to 175,i had a cheat sheet on my shell pack of 160's and I sighted in at 3 inches high and was zero at 300 and 15 inches low at 500 but if remember right it was 1in 10 twist in my 7mm stw so a 190 is pushing the limits.
I just didn't get accuracy with the 180 and if that's not heavy enough I would have packed in.18 years ago berger was not around so most heavier stuff had such a low bc it wasn't even a choice
The 300wm has the right twist for heavier stuff so I shoot 165,180,190.but they all group very close in the gun I had.So 180's is my go to bullet in 300wm,i could go heavier but I I see no need but that's my deal not yours, lotsa guys like heavy stuff.
I shot lotsa stuff around 500 t0 650,mostly wolves some as far as 1100 with a 7mm rem mag,the stw and the 7mm rem mag are not miles apart I know them very well. The stw is one heck of a cartridge ,no to ways about it,but some times a guy likes to try something else and Chuck is checking it out.

You can of course do whatever you like and change your mind at least 7 times on the way there.
I doubt it’s the last rifle you ever have.

Gopher, please stop what you are doing. You are intentionally trying to derail a thread that has a lot of good info/discussion in it and you are adding absolutely zero value. Step up and contribute or bog off please.
