Thumbhole stocks opinions

I'm looking for opinions or experiences with Thumbhole stocks, I've been looking at ordering a Richards Microfit for my Tikka 7mm and want to know what you all think.

Good luck with the Richards. Have a look at Boyds.

I personally don't mind them for target work, but I won't have one on a hunting rifle.

I don't believe Richards is shipping to Canada any longer. We imported them a while back and in correspondence they no longer ship to Canada - exporter available or not. You would need a separate party to procure and ship...

I see x2 and x3....assuming you are seconding and thirding the thought of not using a Thumbhole for hunting but it is ok for targeting. Logic would telle if you are comfortable when target shooting wouldn't that apply to the real thing...HUNTING?!

Target shooting, and carrying a rifle at the ready in the field, where a quick shot may be required, are not at all the same.

It's a long trip for your thumb to get to the safety and back, when you are using a thumbhole stock.

I've used them on a varmint gun and also on many match rifles, but never on a stalking style hunting rifle- except when I was walking around shooting gophers a few years back with the savage thumbhole in 17HMR.
I prefer a slimmer butt stock area in a hunting rifle, but the Savage was not bad when cradled in my arm or on a sling.

I have seen a few thumbhole stocks on hunting rifles and have built a couple but I have not been attracted to them for hunting just because they seem less quick to handle. In addition, I don't really find them to be all that attractive; if that sort of thing matters to you. Leeper

I like the look, I would imagine it helps with feel but don't know if it's worth the loss of handleability....Thanks for the input fellas!

I prefer a thumb-hole stock for off-hand shots. Trigger control is much easier because the release is straight back. Too bad someone doesn't make a sporting clays thumb-hole shotgun, not talking about a defender pistol POS grip.

I gave up hunting a few years ago because too many morons have blind faith in their safeties.

I like the thumbhole stocks, feels like a more natural/comfortable grip, for me anyway. I would have them on a couple other rifles, if I could get them.

I have often wondered, how strong a thumbhole stock would be compaired to a normal sporter, were talking hunting rifles here,
having broken two stocks, one Sako vixen wood, and one Remington plastic, while hunting in harsh, mountion country.
any thoughts
