Default 22lr shotshells

seem to pattern out pretty wide (maybe cause of the rifling on the 22?)

but has anyone taken squirrels at about 20 feet with them?

any other fun uses? I seem to remember someone saying something about grasshoppers on the wing...

I've used them to shoot pigeons that got into the shop and the farm and didn't want to fly out. You have to be really close 15 ft or less I'd say.

X2. Close up and personal. Better through a smooth bore but still limited to 100ft or so.

This must be a typo? 100 ft. is over 30 yards? I don't think so

I use the WMR shot shells. They are more effective

find an old crappy 22 you have and have the rifling taken out and it shoots much better as the rifling throws the shot quite a bit. still limited to 20 yards max

...Is this actually a thing? I'm semi new to shooting (Been shooting for a while, only recently put any kind of effort into learning about guns/ammo), and I would have never guessed...

That, and it's hard to tell now-a-days if you're being trolled on the interwebs.

They are far from useless. They are specifically made for shooting birds, mice, rats etc inside of granaries and farm buildings so you don't punch holes in the roof or sides. Even a 410 will punch holes if you shoot inside the building. The 22 shot loads won't. For their intended use they are VERY effective. If you want to wack birds at 30 yards use a proper shotgun.

Ummm, no. Have you used a smooth bore 22? 100ft would be absolute max that's why I said "or so". It's not a trap load, but a stationary swallow on a rafter at 100ft isn't impossible.

I have some .45 ACP shotshells as well, that if we lived in a place that let us open carry in the bush, would be amazing for grouse. I saw them in a pawn shop a bit back and was curious if they'd even cycle my 1911 so bought a pack to try on range day for S&G ... turns out they work amazing.

Also made by CCI I think

Edit: Yep (Not my pic, but so you guys can see)

I keep my semi auto 22 loaded when working in the shop for mice, even 1 or 2 of those grains will get the mouse squeeking then it is easy to find and finish of. They don't even go through drywall or cupboard doors.

Hmm. I saw a video of a guy shooting them out of a 10/22. Probably the rifling they didn't like. Thanks for the education!

If you tape a balloon on each side of an axe head and then shoot the edge of the axe both balloons will break. It makes it look like you have split the bullet on the edge of the axe.

That is a real good one. Annie Oakley invented that one over a hundred years ago. In fact a lot of her fancy trick shooting was done with shot loads, particularly the aerial targets.

Default rifling + shot

Any time you spin shot in rifling it sprays.
