Default Why Do People Lie About The Dead?

Honest question. How is it that a repeat violent offender, with a long history, who gets dead in an altercation with police, suddenly becomes 'the most peaceful person, turning his life around'? I'm always mystified how these lovely former violent offenders are so misunderstood by law enforcement....

And it happens 90% of the time.
If what the friends and relatives always say was true it would appear the police only target the best of our citizenry.

Doesn’t sound like he was “trying” very hard to turn his life around. Cops aren’t out there randomly shooting good people who aren’t doing anything wrong.

Yup. Stories get spun. Cops do it too. Few people these days want to discover facts and truths. Many just want to push some vested interest and agenda.

One thing though. Mental illness, brain damage, drugs and addictions screw up a lot of people. A lot of adults through rapes, molestations, beatings, etc permanently screw up a lot of kids.

Things like fetal alcohol and other exposures mean a lot of people never had a chance to be calm, rational and not prone to outbursts of all types

All those things are true. So just say that, instead of saying what a wonderful peaceful person he was. 'Hey, he was really screwed up for a bunch of reasons and that's how he got here'. And maybe even concede that he probably made some bad choices too. It's usually a combination of both, things that happened to you, and choices you made. There is still accountability, everything can't be somebody else's fault.

Youd think all the good people are dead by the way people speak of them after death

Some people are easily bought. Their loyalty is cheap and easy.

"Oh he always took care of his mama" (yeah, with drug money)

"Give you the shirt off his back" (yeah, because he was wearing it during a crime and its on video)

"He was turning his life around" (yeah, he had gone 24 hrs without being arrested, a true milestone....)

Some dead is good. Be grateful its open to everyone. Nothing lasts forever

Camped with my 7 year old grandson this weekend. Talking around the campfire he says
“you know you’re going to die?”
“Huh?”
“The world is changing and all the old people are dying so I you will too.”
“Okay, thanks for the warning!”

This topic made me think of Pierre Trudeau. Most people had strong feelings of dislike for him. But after he died he gets called the best PM we ever had. NOT!!

I thought this was going to be about Minneapolis naming a street after George Floyd. I looks like they don't set the bar very high down there, but then pretty obvious that the city admin is being a bunch of virtue-signalers. I'm not saying he deserved what he got, just that its stupid to name a street after a repeat offender.

The linked story is really the same thing, the press taking any example they can twist to suit the narrative they compulsively want to write about. I yearn for actual news presented as just the facts, these days its getting difficult to find something that isn't an op-ed masquerading as news.

Why do people lie?

Grief- They miss the person and remember only the good stuff.

Greed- They make money or get recognition riding on the backs of the dead.

Beliefs- Some people truly believe it is evil to speak ill of the dead.

This is true of many dead people.

I know of several very bad people who where nasty to their kids and wives who later where spoken about as revered saints and philanthropists.

This is common.

What information or facts do any of you have about the altercation that justified gunfire ?

What information or facts do you have? I made no comment about the gunfire. I made a comment about how people with a certain history suddenly have an entirely different history after they are dead. You want to scrap, or troll? Fly at 'er. Let's hear your perspective, with all your intuitive gifting.

You sum it up nicely!

Also I'd add personal responsibility. Some people feel they're partially responsible and it helps them cope to think the person was improving. R

Man, I am so sick and tired of BLM, if they behaved themselves they would not be dead and have all these idiot's feeling sorry for them and wrecking everything they touch, what about all the bad white's that get shot every day, don't hear much about them, also everything you see on the tube is black, where the hell is it gonna end.

Turning ones life around is sometimes the best and only way to help people like this. Such a shame really, he could have taken at least six more rounds.

Emerging from a B and E with two knives threatening the cops. Not getting the message when less than lethal is attempted and continuing to threaten the officers instead of laying on the ground while surrendering. Look up Suicide by Cop.

I hadn't heard any details on what happened....is there an update or link for this? It would certainly add context to how he was a peaceful guy turning his life around....
