Its been good to him, taking 6 deer and an elk in that time.
Entry level for sure, but he doesn't seem to want another rifle.

Hard to argue with something that fits and works.

X2

A good cushion butt will absorb a lot of recoil too.

The savage axis line comes with a scope and are reasonably inexpensive. I have one in .243. I have only shot targets with it, and it hits them. From what I have read on this forum they are superior to other economy line rifles.

My personal choice would be a marlin lever action 30/30 complete with the scope package.
Great deer cartridge in which if he graduates or wishes to upgrade he will always have old faithful kicking around as a back up rifle.
Gotta love people when they show up at camp etc with only one rifle
On another note if you purchase a rifle with sights and a scope I first sight my rifle in with the iron sights then instal the scope and repeat. If you ever have an incident and the scope goes south just remove and you can carry on the hunt.
Food for thought.
Good luck!
