Default Euro mount degreaser

I ended up filling my elk tag on a nice bull. Planning on doing my own euro mount. What’s everyone’s favorite way to degrease using the boiling method. What’s your favorite soap to use?

Naptha or acetone work well.

Dawn dish soap and water works as well but takes longer.

Lately all I have been doing has been using 50/50 mix of water and 40 volume peroxide. Put the skull in it and bring to a boil. Cut the heat and let it sit for another 20 minutes.

Works great for bear skulls. Antlered skulls need a bit more prep work to keep from bleaching the color off.

Check out the YouTube channel 'white bone creations' he is a pro at all things regarding skulls and bone

I have always used dawn while simmering the skull, does well to degrease the skulls. Afterwards I make a paste using 50/50 volume 40 peroxide cream and bleach powder, available at hairdressers supply stores. I paint that on the entire skull, and then cover with a plastic bag to help keep it from drying. Let it sit overnight. In the morning, rinse it off and then soak it in a baling soda and water bath for a couple hours. Let it dry in the sun.

It works well, well enough for me. Especially cause it’s $350-$375 to have someone else do it for me. I’ve done about a dozen skulls like this now over the years and they still look great.

Put soda ash in the water while you boil it and it helps break the meat done to come off the skull easier and will degrees at the same time.

Jim..

Soak it in acetone or white gas to really degrease it.

Borax. Make sure you remove as much of the brain as you can first. I use a wire coat hanger.

You need to find someone who has beetles. They do all the work. Saw a bison skull that beetles cleaned up and its a thing of beauty.

A decreasing process still needs to be done after the Beatles are done.

I suggest a light boil in dawn dish soap

Cut off a piece of coat hanger, or use welding rod. Stick in a drill, bend a loop or "J" on one end, insert and pull trigger. Wash out with a garden hose or pressure washer after.

Simmer and then wash with a rotary pressure washer nozzle.
The rotary tip will take half the time as a conventional nozzle.
