1885
Been wanting another single shot rifle for a while. I like the falling block rifles. Came across a low wall in 17hmr. Used rifle in very good condition, price was too good to pass up on. Just picked it up from post office today. Cleaned it up, has a couple small marks on stock and two spots on barrel that maybe are rust. Nothing to concerning. Went to range to test function. It works which is good but the sights are horrible. The stock comb height is high, meant for scope. More of an eye socket weld to try and see the sights. They are buckhorn style sights with a bead, anything past 50m to hard to see with. I do like shooting with iron sights but these are not going to work. I would do a tang sight but rifle doesn't have a tang. Will get a scope. Trigger is very good.

Nice. I don’t usually regret selling a gun but my 1885 low wall in 6.5x55 was sure a Beauty.

Good to hear, because I have had my eyes on one as well.
Just a recent love affair with the single shots, and this one came up in my radar as well.

I'd like to find a nice 1885 some day, but most have no iron sights, so that's kind of a non-starter for me.

I have always liked the 1885/B78 actions and have owned 8 of them over the years.
At one time, Browning made a point of putting really nice wood on them, as well.

I have 2, 375 and 405. Both with tang sights. I have taken moose with the 375, but just deer with the 405. The tang sights work very well on old eyes.

Had 3 of the Hiwalls now, 22-250, built that into a 32-40, have a 223Rem and a 300H&H now. The 300 came with those sights, just knocked the back one out and put a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14 on it. the 223 has an old 6.5-20 Nikon on it. Winchester tends to put sort "meh" wood on them, which the 300 has, the 223 is a Browning, has very nice wood. Like them both, love the way an 1885 swings and settles offhand.

They are a nice firearm , some like the exposed hammer and some don’t . Most of the B-78 were furnished with nice wood , not so much with the 1885. The 1885 triggers are less trouble than the 78s. . I’ve said it before don’t try to adjust the factory triggers on the 78s.
I picked up a B-78 25-06 a while ago and have only put 10 rounds out of it to test fire it. It’s a moa with the load I tried , it was 100 gr Sierras and imr-4350.
