Default Wab?

Hey guys,

I honestly hate doing this, but I am planning on heading to Wab Saturday with the gf. She has never been fishing in Alberta before ( from Ontario) so I want to ensure she has a good time above anything else. I've fished Wab plenty of times over the years including through the ice but I have not been this year.

Can anyone give me an update on ice conditions? I imagine there is plenty of ice, but anything to worry about? Snow? Heaves?

I plan on driving up through the main pier. Any decent locations not too far away? Feel free to PM me if you wish. As I said, only heading out for a few hours Saturday and if I put her onto a few walleye perhaps she will get the fever lol. Or at the very least perhaps she will understand my obsession a little more and give me some slack when I go fishing.

Much appreciated fella's.

I havent been out lately, but lots of friends have. Catching tons of walleye on bright jigs and minnows, said ice is plenty thick, almost need extension apparently.

Thanks for the replies, will give it a shot Saturday. Don't have an auger extension so hopefully wont need one or that will suck.

I was there 2 weekends ago and we had 28” of ice. We were about 6” away from needing an extension.

We caught walleyes and pike on Wally talkers and Wetaskiwin specials with minnows onthem.

We just looked where others were fishing and picked a similar distance from shore. Lots of old holes to use to find productive areas as well.

FYI.

This Saturday is Kids Can Catch at Wabamum lake.

You may be sharing the ice with a few hundred families.

If you do decided to try and beat the crowds down at Fallis, watch the heave at the launch. People getting stuck trying to get over.

Thanks for the heads up. How big is the heave? Probably not going to Fallis, going to fish somewhere not too far from the main pier, maybe Alison point. Does the heave run that way also? I have a truck with 4x4 so im not too worried unless its something crazy.
