Default T and T Archery

Stopped in today to check the speed of my bow. They have a chrony set up and ready to go at all times. It took about 2 minutes to shoot 3 arrows, 263 fps with a 430.5 grain arrow. Just over 66 ft/lbs of KE and it was nice to confirm the "guesstimation" I had made using an online calculator (actually 6 fps higher than estimated). Had a nice chat with Diane and was an overall great experience.

Im glad you took the time to do an online caculator first and had some Idea of actual speed...

We dont set up Chrony unless the shooter has done some homework...
kleenex is expensive ...when shooters come in expecting 350 FPS and finding out actual is 260-280 FPS due to draw length, poundage etc...

they were totally happy with bow prior...now depressed and un-happy with bow and confidnce with bow is deminished...

I reason I wanted an accurate measurement of speed is that I am going to hunt with Grim Reaper 1 3/8" this year for Elk and wanted to confirm my KE is sufficient out to 50 yards. I am hunting down in your neck of the woods on some private and just north of CZAR.

I believe its 65 Lbs KE on their biggest 2" Grim Reaper

Sounds very close to the cabin and property...lol

A lot of factors are at play here...keeping in mind that kinetic energy deteriorates the further the arrow travels...
Expect to lose an average of 1.5 ft-lbs for every 10 yards traveled...
Example if the arrow has 59 ft-lbs KE at point-blank range, expect this value to be closer to 55 ft-lb if shooting a target located 30 yards away.

This is still more than enough to take down large game, assuming your shot is well placed and using a well tuned bow with razor sharp broadheads
