Backpack/chest pack combo
Just curious as to whether or not anyone has tried a backpack/chestpack combo? I have a standalone double breasted chest pack that I am finding a bit too cumbersome that I can't seem to carry enough of the "essentials" (lunch, extra gear i.e. rain etc.) I like the idea of the fishpond styles, but the price, especially for the black canyon backpack / chest pack(sold seperately) maybe somewhat inhibitive for me. Anyone recommend any suggestions? I know that they are certainly a personal choice, but just curious as to what people are using and how they are finding them (useful, not good storage etc.)

Thanks for your input

I've got the simms sling pack, absolutely one of the best buys I've ever made, comfortable, holds all my needs and love the idea of being able to undo one buckle and swing it around to the front of you and get something out of it. The downside is your lunch ends up being flat a little pricey at 135 I believe that's what I paid but now that I've had a full season with this pack I would recommend it. Hope that addresses your question.Sorry about pics

Look at the William Joseph exodus ii. It has magnetic pouches so u have quick access to things you need. Been using it for the last couple months and would recommend it to anyone.

I've started using the Fishpond Wild Horse tech pack and it suits me nicely. Carries everything I need for full day trips and carries the weight well so that I'm not as sore as I used to be with a standard vest. Its a fairly big pack though, I think if I made shorter day trips the simms sling pack would work really nicely to carry lunch and a bit of fishing gear.

Thanks for the responses so far. It very much appreciated to hear what is working for the rest of you. Gives me some homework to check out some new options.

Keep your chest pack and just get a suitable day pack to carry the bulky/heavier items. A pack with a good waistbelt will be better because that's where all the weight should be with the shoulder straps just keeping the bag upright.
Depending on the weather and how long of a day I'm going to be out I will have a 15L or a 25L pack that I use. My chest pack has some flies/tippet/leaders...anything for the immediate fishing conditions while extra reels, clothing, food and water are in my day pack.
I find that when I look into all the "tech" pack combos and such it gets a little pricey for my liking. I'll use the extra cash I save for fly tying materials

Hey Quicksilver, send me a PM and I'll give you info on what I've designed. It sounds like what you're looking for. As you can see most people are havng to piece together different pieces to get what they want. I didn't like doing that so I came up with a solution. I'll have some available in the next month as production begins.
Tight lines!

I went with the Patagonia Sweet Pack - might be pricey, but I absolutely love it.

X2 on the Patagonia sweet pack, had mine for a couple of seasons love it. Super easy to remove the pack part and covert it to just a vest which I do often when I'm going to be in the pontoon

If it was me i would be looking into the fishpond summit sling. I might pick one up for Christmas.

I currently use a pinney Creek backpack and aroyo chest pack combo. I found the chest pack that came with the pinney Creek a bit too small for my needs.
I interchange them depending on my needs of the day. For full days I use both. For quik / light trips I use the aroyo.
I'm hoping the summit will come into play for those days I want just a bit more room than the aroyo.

Second this option, been using it for two years and love having the option of taking the chest pack only. It's just large enough to carry some food as well.
