Awesome looking area and nice buck. Congrats!

It's nice to see some areas of Alberta that have some decent hilltops to spot from.

Thanks! Not bad for a first Muley I don't think. We found some more open areas for glassing after I shot my deer. Where I shot my deer there wasn't a lot of opportunity to glass real hard.

Thanks guys! Some people wanted to help and others just want to tell you to figure it out on your own but appreciated all the tips I did get. Not the biggest deer but looks good mounted up, was a fun hunt with my dad so was a good way to immortalize it I think.

That zone is an awesome zone and fun to hunt in. I will be back.

Not that score is important, but what do you think that buck would score? He looks good on the wall. Wide and deep fronts, 175+?

He’s a great looking mount for sure! But he did fall short on that one back fork and he was very thin throughout...but that’s alittle harder to see through a scope in a blizzard haha. Also the fact that I suck at field scoring mule deer but he went 167” gross. Not bad for a first one. My goal for the hunt was 170” so close!

Bonedogg it wasn’t the antlers that told us it was a cross but it was the large whitetail flag sticking out the back end that confirmed it for us. Had F&W take a look at it and confirmed it could be scored as either species.

Put together another successful hunt with a friend this past week. Saw lots of good deer but ended up settling on this buck. We took a shot at a real dandy the day before but high cross wind was a miss for my hunting partner. He was happy with the hunt though.

Yours was one of the top mules of 2017 for me, and now you help your buddy get an impressive one this year. Nice hunting, especially in a zone new to you.

Get on it! If you decide in the 150’s let me know I’m pretty versed on the area now.

Thanks! I really appreciate it. I love hunting in the south and mule deer are so much more fun than whitetail. But I might have to put in some serious time around home and go all in on the WT.

Well I was able to put in another successful hunt down in my favourite place to hunt mule deer. This time it was much tougher hunting as many ranchers have shut down hunting on there lands because of a couple bad eggs. This made getting permission very difficult and hunters being very congested in areas that permission could be had. Walking 100km in 4 days separated the men from the boys as we searched for a buck that was mature enough to take. Spotting a few nice bucks on the first day and having another group of hunters harvest a buck we targeted that day from under us hopes were getting low on whether this zone would be productive this time around. The morning of the 3rd day I was able to spot this buck and put 2 plays on him that had his does moving him out of shooting range both times. After a lunch break we proceeded to check out some coulees we hadn’t in the morning but something drew me back to the coulee we started off in the morning at. There I found this buck bedded on a pedestal in the bottom of the coulee, one Nosler 150 grain at 275 yards put him down. Then the work began, without any snow sledding him out proved to be the most difficult drag I have ever done and a marathon to walk back to the truck and get him out of the coulee. Without my hunting partners I’d still be there dragging him out. With slightly more bone on him then my previous mule deer I’m happy to slowly start inching up in size every time I take a draw. Glad to be able to share the hunt and pain with a couple close friends. Cheers!

Looks like he did do it again! Without handouts. Lol.

Well done, man. Good looking deer.
