Need a rifle restored
Can someone direct me to a gun smith that can restore a rifle that has sentimental value to me? I just need blueing done and a quick check up also.
Thanks

Sometimes if a rifle is shooting good and nothing is broken it's best just to leave them as is or as it was given to you. New wood for a model 94 is readily available if that needs changing. If some of the blueing is worn sometimes that looks better for an older rifle than trying to make it look like brand new. How old is the rifle or what is the aproximate serial number?

Heck a 1984 production model is almost brand new, oil her up and enjoy what you've been given. Save your refurbishment money for getting the next gun treasure so that she don't get lonely.

Photos would help all here give some better advise, surface rust usually looks worse than it really is and comes out good after it's cleaned up. Deep pitted rust could be a gunsmithing job. Have you looked under the wood yet?

Dissasembled is the way we like to see guns and rifles, snap some pics and post them to the forum so that we can all opinionate.

This site might be of some help to get the rifle back together, note the top part where it explains screwdriver types;

No disrespect meant about using the right type of screwdrivers, just that I run into so many older rifles with messed up slots.
A machinist with a liking for guns could be an great combination. Getting parts for some of the older rifles often means building a new copy.

Oh, I took no disrespect sir. you would not have known my background lol. i just found it personally amusing that is all.
I really appreciate the help!
on that note, some of the screws are a bit mangled, i assume my father used a butter knife and is to embarassed to admit it. anyway, i am not so sure i want to spend the time on the lathe to make copies but maybe that would be a great excuse for the wife to let me buy a new one

Before you go "preping" the steel to be blued you should know that the 94's over #2,700,000 wont blue worth chit with "normal" hot bluing salts. Apparantly some of the stainless hot bluing chemicals will however blue them....maybe ask Rick at ATR, as he has stainless salts.

Wow great to know Double Gun! Mine is a 4****** series model. Looks like i wont be tackling this job for a bit, as Jetski said... "Sometimes if a rifle is shooting good and nothing is broken it's best just to leave them as is or as it was given to you". I think a thourough cleaning and reassembly and off to the bush for me this season. Thanks for all the help to all you fellas.
