Default Thoughts on a new Scope???

Good day everyone!!

Well here is my dilima.. iam looking at buying a new rifle/scope setup for this upcoming hunting season.. Ive already made up my mind on a Tikka T3 Stainless in 270WSM but iam still undecided on scopes.. I have looked at a newer bushnells (6500 series 2.5 x 16 x 50mm w/ mil-dot) and a few Leupolds, i cant really remember the models but they were nice also... so could anybody give me some feedback/recommendations on scopes that would compliment a 270 WSM nicely???

I would also like to keep the cost around 600-900 big ones.

Thanks a bunch!!

Chris

Take a look at Leupold Canadian. It's a VX2 for around $500 retail. Also look at the new VX3's for 2009. I think they're around the $750 mark. I went with the VX3 3.5-10x40 on my T3 lite.

Ziess Conquest are good in that price range or a Leupold VX III or something - can't go wrong with a Bushnell 4200 either.

My favorite magnification range is a 2.5-8x36ish. I think they're a great size/compact/weight/length/useful power range combination.

If you want something HUGE get the bushnell 6500 or another with a 30mm maintube.

x2 on that, I dont know why everyone thinks they need massive amounts of magnification. a 2-7 to 3-9 power scope is more than sufficient.

Any 3-9x40 or better. My two Tikka T3 LS rifles have Leupold VX3 scopes: silver 3.5-10x40 with BC reticle and the other is a 4.5-14x40 with BC reticle. The BC reticle works great for me.

Leupold VX2 in a 3-9x40 or the 4-12x40 with LR duplex would be sweet as well.

Enjoy the new purchase.. the caliber with 140gr Accubonds is a sure winner.

Leupold FXII 6x36, FX3 6x42 or the VX3 2.5-8x36...anyone of of these would be my choice. I have a the FXIII 6x42 on my 30-06 and its awesome and I am going to put the VX3 2.5-8x36 on my 25-06.

You can't beat Leupold customer service and that the warranty depot is here in Okotoks if you ever need it.

The 270WSM is an great round as well, you will love it.

Default Try a Leupold VX111 4.5X14-50MM Long Range with AO

I have 2, one on my Remington 700BDL 30/06 and one on my 300 Weatherby Lazermark. Very good scope and the B&C cross hairs work as they were designed to. I do believe that this scope runs about $812.00 at Russel Sports, or Wholesale Sports. I am considering mounting this scope on a new 375 Ruger African. This scope can stand heavy recoiling weapons, shot after shot.

Thanks so much for your input everyone!!! it is greatly appreciated.. i think ive narrowed it down to 2: 1) Bushnell Elite 6500 series 2.5x16x42mm w/ either a Mil-dot or DOA600 , or if i really want to splurge I might go with a Leupold VX-3 in a 3.5x10x40mm with a Boone and Crockett reticle..

Anyone using a scope with a Mil-dot reticle??

You should check out www.shepherdscopes.com . Awsome scope, best reticle system on the market and easy to use. Mil-dot is a pain to use unless you like counting dots.
You would probably need a P1 model for a WSM. Don's Gunsmithing in Rocky Mtn. House is the alberta dealer (403)845-4805. There is also a dealer in Ft. St. John I think. Go on the website or call them at (402)779-2424 and they can provide the BC dealer info. the scope is $810 3-10x40mm. If you really stuck on the leupold I traded a brand new in unopened box vxIII 3.5-10x50mm with Boone & Crocket reticle for another Sheperd scope. Thie Shepherd scope is set up to shoot out to 1000 yards. Good luck.
