The Germans have it figured out with their military scopes. A fixed 8 with a 56mm objective offering the perfect 7mm exit pupil. No extra bulk and 100% useable light. Sadly, if you are over 40, an exit pupil larger than 5mm is wasted.

You are correct, 6x was a typo.

A nightforce on a hunting rifle? Yup a Nightforce on a hunting rifle...especially now that they are making them in lighter and in magnifications that hunters asked for. And you can get them with regular style turrets instead of the target style turrets.

Every one is ranting or raving about zeiss, swarvoski, nightforce, etc. Is anyone familiar with Sheperd scopes? They are designed to shoot out to 1000 yards and you don't need a range finder. Everything is built in to them. They have the best optics for detail that I have seen and they are simple to use. I sold a zeiss and put one of them on. The dealer in alberta is Don's Gunsmithing near Rocky Mtn. House. Cost is aroun $800. Go to www.shepherdscopes.com for more details. A 30-06 probably would use a P2 or P3 model. There is also a dealer in Ft. St. John I think.

Holy nugget had to weigh in on this one... get a Leupold, no matter the cost, even up to $1500 - I've barked down the other scope alleys, and leuopold has the best no hassles warranty I've borne witness to yet

Yep nice scope I run one on my 300wsm that Rick from Alberta Tactical tricked out for me the scope was bought aat Valleyview sports shop Doh can't think of the name. Scope does exactly what is said and I like it.

That said Leupold will never be a bad choice and with Oakatoks as the warranty service it is fast and fantastic yet I have never personally needed the service. My oldest Loopy is about 26 years old never a problem. MY2CENTS

I just had a Leupold VX-3L mounted on my Abolt stainless stalker I love it. It mounts on low rings but is a 50 mm scope also got the Boone and crocket reticle $1050 had the lumina lens caps put on and Leupold rings taxes in came to $1300 also the warranty allows you to pass it on for generations you never have to buy another scope

There is no laser rangefinder built in.You are forced to judge distance by comparing animals against circles, which is not nearly as accurate as using a laser rangefinder. If the deer in question is actually 20" deep instead of 18",you will have an error of over 10%.A 10% error at 500 yards amounts to a difference of 50 yards, which can easily be the difference between a clean kill, and a clean miss.
