Ronald Reagan was one of the greatest leaders of the century. That's a given. Only far left ideologues would argue that point.

Seriously?

The guy had advanced Alzheimer's before he left office...lol

The only thing he did right was to be president when the eastern block finally imploded ...but...you can hardly credit Reagan for that.

Following that western victory... the Republican mistakes began to pile up beginning with ignoring Russia as it struggled to convert to a capitalist democracy.

I feel the same way about public sector employees.

Ronald Reagan was the fool who kick started the war on drugs and the prison-industrial complex. There's a trillion dollar boongoggle which has destroyed and continues to destroy entire countries. Amazing to see how fast states are back peddling on that one now.

I'm confused as to why you would consider someone who grew the size and cost of the US gov. by several factors, "one of the greatest leaders of the century."

The pool of candidates must be mighty shallow.

Ran up massive debt doing what?? He only toppled the USSR with nary a drop of blood spilled. A sad thing for many I'm sure. Without looking it up I think he also dropped the inflation rate and reduced the unemployment rate as well during his presidency. Reagan was firmly against increasing gov't and cut many of it's departments and expenditures with the exception of the military. Winning the cold war was no small thing.

At any rate, way off topic of the OP...sorry for the hijack.

I never said that did I? I said Reagan ran up the debt building up a crippled military in order to defeat the USSR. Which he did. Democrats (libs in general) typically (although not exclusively) run up debt buying votes with social welfare programs which do nothing but enslave generations to a life of government sponsored poverty. If you really want to discuss it further start up a new thread.

If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand.

bush ran up alot of debt with his re election in 04,medicare part b,pork barrell spending etc, clinton on the other hand reduced the defecit and debt from 96-00.chretien/martin did the same as clinton and harper is doing a good job increasing the government and debt himself,it's a falacy that the right want's people to believe that they are better with spending, they have different just as expensive priorities that's all.
