Took last Thursday off to fish. Driving slowly on gravel road down to Sheep River west of Okotoks I pass a car on the side of the road. Nobody in the front, naked couple in the back. 10 in the morning. Man, couldn't even wait to park in the bush. Not a teenager's beater car either LOL

Was out hunting/scouting this weekend in 339 found a old camp just off the road. Nice campsite. I turned around and noticed a rag tied around a tree. Then looked in the bush and there was rags tied around lot of trees. And not just one rag but a big bunch of rags. Had to be 20 trees like that.

I was walking through some bush moose hunting and saw a plastic bag hanging from a tree, like a safeway bag. Went over and grabbed it, it was full a hunting tags and licences. Probably 5 or 6 tags. I called the number on the licence and got in touch with the guy. He had already got reprints but I still returned them to him.

I came across the same sort of thing high up on a mountain. It turned out to be a vision quest site that aboriginals frequented, maybe it's the same thing

Default Rubbing Tree

My buddy found this tree & told me where it was. After seeing it first hand I find it to be the most intriguing thing I've ever seen in the bush. It has elk, deer, moose & bear hair on or in it. It's about 24 inches in diameter. Looks like it has been used for many years & often.

These are quite common. Very often when natives know a oil company has plans on pushing through a pipeline, they all of a sudden appear. Then its sacred land. hehe

And they were not there the day before.

Me and my wife were walking down a cutline outside of Red Deer one day and I saw something hanging from a tree. To this day I don't know how I saw it but walked into the bush and took a tiny leg hold trap off a tree.

How long and why it was there I have no idea. Only thing I can think of is that it was used to catch birds for some reason. Its hanging in my garage.

No teeth on it.

Lots of traps used to get left hanging on trees and left for the next year. How rusty was it?

It was a single trap. It had some patina and looked like it had been painted at one time. No rust.

Came upon a diesel rail crane. It was on an abandoned stretch of track that hasn't been used in years (~20 years). The crane had trees growing under/into it. Locked up tight and in good shape, assume the rail company knows its still there. Found it odd that it would be left there though.

Edmonton Sun news box in the woods north of Edson about 20 years ago. Someone must have stolen it for the change box.

Stopped the truck on an old logging road to take a dump in the bush. Walked over shoulder of the old road and dropped down into the trees. Feet landed in two opened Samsonite suitcases full of ladies underwear, tampons, and misc clothes. Figured they must have been stolen and opened up later. This was 50 miles or so south of Whitecourt. It was at least a couple years old and quite weathered, I was creeped out though and scanned around for anything else, was hoping I wouldn't find anything like a body or something.

Was in Northern Saskatchewan, 1979. Montreal just won the Stanley Cup (spring). I was and 8 year old kid, went into bush near lake. Kicking up brush, kicked a solid steel box that had over 100 Mexican Peso coins. That was cool. Took them to police. No one claimed them. They gave it back to me.

Found an entry here for CF-MFB from post 122:

http://www.ab-ix.co.uk/d-1_to_d-999.pdf (page 19)

Thankfully it was at page 19 of an unsearchable .pdf

"Destroyed on 8 May 1967 6 miles NE of Hinton, Alberta (at 53.36.30N 117.27W) when it hit trees on rising ground and caught fire whilst looking for an airstrip in deteriorating weather after becoming lost. The sole occupant Wendell Edward Bell, was seriously injured."

The strangest thing I've seen out in the bush was 2 holiday trailers with a barbecue set up next to them, with a couple 250 lb propane tanks, blacked out windows, and the one 5th wheel was chained to a tree...... but they where about 20 km up an old lease road that was a spur off a spur that was off a larger lease road that was on the trunk road, had a very eery feeling about the site.... wasn't willing to go and poke and see what it was, just turned around a got out of there
