Default Take down rifle

I have a craving for a new gun and was thinking about a mountain rifle. I'd like a take down rifle and one that I can interchange barrels with. I have a few conventional mountain rifles but would like something different.

I'm thinking take down as weight and bulk is always an issue when using horses. A scabbard looks great in a picture but is a pain is the butt when you actually use it for a few days. I prefer breaking my guns down and packing in dry bags.

Any suggestions?

Blaser K95. If you can afford a 2 or 3 barrel set, you will be in heaven.......22-250, 270, 300WM.

I`ve seen some custom takedown rifle topics on this forum;

How about a stainless TC carbine with composite stock but a better caliber than 45-70.

Seems like a Thompson Center Encore would fit your needs perfectly. Throw a 24" barrel on it and you are just over 6 pounds and it would easily fit in a back pack or pack box.

I see the Browning BAR is now made in a takedown version.

Default BLR Takedown?

Brian,

A 'takedown' lever operated bolt-action rifle (Browning's BLR) might be something to think about, but they only come with one barrel . . .

Browning's link; http://www.browning.com/products/cat...34&type_id=012

Also, this is a recent thread of mine on the 'BLR Takedown'; http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=34669

Hope this helps a bit.

Good Hunting!

TF

I believe H-S Precision makes a very nice Pro Hunter Take Down. One won't have trouble packing their wallet up the mountain after that purchase, as it will be considerably lighter...

Kifaru used to offer a very nice light switch barrel rifle. I would say it was "different". I don't know if they offer it anymore.

The browning take down is chambered in a number of cartridges. You would think they would make some interchangable combinations. Nice that you can scope it take it apart and store it in a pack box.
