Default Filleting a fish without gutting it...

I put a video together of how I fillet a salmon without first removing the guts. Could be applied to most fish. Only bones left are the pin bones.

I thought that was how everyone did it. Shows what I know.

Good on ya for making a video of it, I'm sure there are lots of folks who don't have anyone to teach them the technique.

Now if someone could just make a video of the way the Cod fisherman down east do it. I hear they leave no bones at all.

I can fillet Walleye without bones easy enough. I just take both sides off and then cut the belly meat off which is where the bones are. I separate those pieces from the boneless ones and I eat those. I let the wife and the kids have the boneless pieces.

Well Done,

Here's one I made for filleting Walleye, including "Pin Bone" and "Cheek" removal. Just kinda threw it togeather for something to do one day.

Up until the last 30 seconds I was thinking that is the same way I do it. Until you grabbed that skinned fillet and sliced into it. That's when I took notice. It's good to learn something new everyday. That is pretty slick. Does it get rid of all the bones?

Sure does. Thanks for the video doc, will have to try that. I usually just cut the hole thing out, didn't realize you can just start the cut and then pull the pieces apart.

Yes, and the strip of meat that comes out with the bones is so thin, you could read a newspaper through it. Occasionally you don't get the whole strip, but just nick it again and pull the rest off.

Nice job! Used to catch a lot of those when I lived in Manitoba. I saw an Indian fillet pickerel the way you do it. Nice boneless strips of meat!
