Default Cleaning a release aid

Hey guys. I was practicing today and noticed my release is starting to take a little more effort to make it fire. The sensitivity is adjusted correctly so I thought maybe it needs a cleaning. How does everybody clean their release? Was reading that oil is a bad idea as it attracts dirt and grime. What do you use? Compressed air, oil, solvent, specialty lube?

Plenty of 70% rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush. Once it drys, graphite powder for lube if needed, but I haven't so far. Seems to work, but I'd be interested to hear what everyone else does.

I'd be interested in hearing too. I have only ever washed them off, blown them out with compressed air and lubricated with Teflon based gun oil where required. Never had much of a problem though.

I was told to douse it in lighter fluid, and air dry...like you would a higher end trigger (Jewel), I haven't tried it myself though.

Degreases and leaves a slight residue behind.

Ya, I could see that working quite well. Thanks for the tip!

I clean my guns with Brake clean spray. Cheap and it degreases and cleans very well. Then I use compressed air in a can to blow out all the crud in the tight spots that gum up. Works on Semi auto shotguns very well.

This was my first thought as well. Thanks for the replies so far

My first thought when reading the title was "Yeah! The wrist band on my release stinks too!"

But honestly, my release has been working completely fine for the past 15 years without a drop of lubricant or anything.

I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong because it's not getting dirty stored inside my bow case? Or are you talking preventative maintenance on your release Passthru?

J.

Brake clean. Dishwasher. Then a dab of canola oil.
That's how I have done it.

I'm using a truball hunter 3 max with a v lock strap. I only shoot outside. Yes it was more a preventative maintenance thing as it works fine. I've been using it again after using a different release for a year. Me thinking it takes a little more effort might just be all in my head and over thinking again. Hehe

Great idea. Sounds worth trying. I just haven't felt the need to clean my release

I figured out why my release was taking more effort to fire. Nock pinch. More accurately, release pinch. I didn't have nocking points tied on, just a d loop. Now the nock points are on with the d loop. Much better. No effort.
