-6wt for Dolly's and Cuts
-7wt for sockeye
-8 to 10 for steelhead and chinook
Steelhead and sockeye are good with click n pawl
Chinook get massive and a disc drag would be wise
I use a 11' 7wt Glx switch with 3.5 lamson lightspeed. Rio switch chucker with mows. And a 14' 9/10 glx dredger with Orvis Mirage 7, grip shooter running line and 650-675grain rio skagit flight with mow tips.
If you went with a 6 and and 8 single hand you can get by and get the feel for the rivers. Decent fishing shops that can steer you and supply you on current conditions and regs/tackle. (Make sure your loaded on backing)
Wish I had more time to spend every time I go!
But you really need to define what type of fishing you want first.
If you are going for winter steelies then you have plenty of time to figure things out.
Start online reading and visit some shops to discuss your direction. There really is a multitude of gear to choose from.
I prefer fly fishing and drift fishing with a centre pin.
Lol.. It kind of reads that I bring all that but
I just go with 2 double handers with one being back up (9wt 13' loop)
The switch rod and I like to have a 7wt single hand.
Was supposed to be there for two weeks right now but with the oil prices where
They are it's batten down the hatches for me! Hope fully we can make it for summer or fall.
Thanks for the info. I will do some reading. I just came back from SMithers and Terrace. Was there for work for four days, had one day planned to go out in Terrace with a guide but Murphy had something to say about it and I ended up working on the day I had booked to fish. We ended up working pretty much right on the bank of a river up the nass valley. Guys I was working with was showing me pictures of his buddies big steelies from the day before from about 3 miles away from where we were working. I just about cried.
