Default 17 hmr for beavers

i was at the local out doors store the other day and the guy at the counter was telling me about guys shooting beavers with the 17 hmr i really have my doubts on haw good it will work no a beaver cause they are a large critter with thick fur as far as i am concerned the 17 hmr is best for gopher sized game up to a rabbit at the most. what you guys think?

hmr vs beaver????
no contest, bring it on, anytime.
the 17 is extremely accurate and fast allows me to head shot while they swim by. body shots on a beaver are bang flops. the frangibility works to your advantage and grenades inside.
17gr bullets create a softball sized area of destruction in the chest of a coyote and not exit. what more do you want!?
ive shot 13 yotes so far with one shot each....Stinky Coyote has several more than that.
17hmr vs gopher....that is only sporting at 200yards
let me know where and when you want to go, i'll demonstrate...i need bear bait. bring yur tall rubber boots!!!

With a 17 hmr that has exponentially better ballistics than a 22 short, which is what ive killed many beavers with as ive been trapping and selling the hides since i was 8, I certainly think it would take a beaver without question.

I would go so far as to say it may be overkill for a beaver, but it is sure fun.

Not sure if it's relevant but we only used 22 shorts on them when I was a kid. They didn't seem to pass through the heads and the beavers would float there....we would lose a lot more when using the 22 lr's as they would dive and not surface....not sure why.

Its because if you shoot them in front of the ears or between the eyes, it will lose some of the air in it and actually sink. i shot a lot with lr too, and if you shoot them behind the ears from the side they will die almost instantly, and float there not sink.
