Default What I need to trap coyotes

I would like to snare some yotes. What would I have to do in order to snare them? licenses? Education?

It would help to know where you are , because every province has different rules. Try the Canadian trappers forum , lots of help there.

Alberta. Would be snaring them in the Ministik lake bird sanctuary.

"As far as I know"....you can't set up snares on crown land without a trappers license and a registered trap line...."to the best of my knowledge". If you set up snares in Ministik you could get into a tonne of trouble.....and would likely catch a few neighbourhood dogs.

DIRECTLY FROM THE REGS:

Coyote
A Resident may, without a licence and on land to which he or she has the right of access, hunt (but not trap) coyote at all times of the year throughout the province, except as follows:
1) on public lands in the Green Area, only from October 1, 2011 to February 29, 2012, and
2) in Camp Wainwright (WMUs 728 and 730), only from January 2, 2012 to February 29, 2012.

Access for Control of Livestock Predation
Black Bear and Coyote*
Any person who is (a) the owner or occupant of privately owned land, or (b) authorized to keep livestock on public land, or (c) a resident authorized by a person described in (a) or a resident authorized in writing by a person described in (b) may, without a licence, hunt (but not trap) black bear or coyote on such lands, at all times of the year.
