How does a thief even crawl under some of those lower vehicles to remove the converter? If I saw someone jack my vehicle up, and crawl under it, I know exactly what I would do.

Pics and video does not seem to do much for getting thieves off the street either

I know this much if I catch someone under my truck I am not going to attempt a photo op. Clearly thieves don’t fear our legal system

Technically yes, but I wouldn't recommend it as the exhaust fumes will end up inside the cab, especially during idling, and sometimes even during driving (Depending on the exhaust design).

Other than confusing the computer, it probably won't hurt the engine. I would make sure that the remaining exhaust tubing is supported properly though.

The cats like batteries are sold to scrap dealers why don't the cops clamp down on the sale of these items to the dealers?

Make it like pawnshops in the states when you sell or pawn an item you need ID and leave a fingerprint.

Cat stolen from your SUV?
i thought it was just diesels as they are worth a lot more than gas cats.

i know on diesels you can drive long before it will go into limp mode.

My truck (not a diesel) got hit at the Heritage LRT Station in Calgary 2 days ago. 2 others parked in same lot (Toyota Trucks) were also victims. This was during daylight hours.

Mothertruckers cost me $1850 to get this repaired.

Not covered by insurance? That's odd.

Simple, go on the meth diet and you can slip under any rice rocket in no time.

So let me get this correct, if somebody steals my catalytic, then they would be charged with stealing and attempted murder,

If you see legs under your vehicle just drive over them a few times. Or a steel toe boot to the genital areas but like your were kicking a field goal for a million bucks

300+ thefts since start of October. They've realized they don't even have to steal your vehicle now for some meth/fet money. Just steal a couple cats and get on with it.

Took two from our shop truck in the same year. 2013 f350. First time was a 12000 dollar insurance claim. Second time, we just deleted the trucks emissions,$2500. Nothing to steal. Both times truck was locked in fenced compound. RCMP not particularly concerned.
Question has to be asked. Where are they anonymously selling them?

you would think so and i brought that up before with police officers . thieves come onto a live work site and cut and remove all the ground wire which is installed as per the electrical code to protect lives in the event of a short . could that not be attempted murder ? nope .

Have the converter recycle depot at the police station.

Sure thing! And after they are convicted, slap on wrist, told not to do that again and out the revolving door. As well as taxpayers pick up their legal expenses. Brilliant, isn't it?

I see daily on FB vehicle buy/sell groups "BUYING ALL DPFS/CATALYTIC CONVERTERS CASH PAID ON THE SPOT CAN MEET ANYWHERE!".

We have had multiple work trucks that got the cats hacked off. Sucks when you go to go to lease and you can’t even get out of the parking lot

I would not notice any legs sticking out from under the vehicle, I would start the vehicle and drive off, without delay. My official statement would be that I only noticed the thief when I felt the tires go over something.
