I used to work for a veterinarian about 15 years ago. 3 years in a row we had the same dog come in to have quills removed. Not as bad as this dog but close. Some never learn.
I once helped my cousin with a holstein milk cow that must have rolled a large porky a mile. She had as I recall close to 550 quills in her head. She went totally berserk and never was any good.
Saw the same pics as Dick.
Englesg Bull terrier- he'll do it again!
The best lab for retreiving I ever had wouldn't run or bother rabbits, foxes, deer , nuthin'
EXCEPT porkys!!! never did break him of that.

I heard that some dogs learn from specific experience. If a dog gets quilled in a certain situation it won't get quilled in that way again. For instance if it was in a patch of willows one time and in a ditch the next time, then catches one in a field the next. I am not sure if this is true or not. Luckily I have not yet had to pull any quills. I have also heard that some dogs are extremely attracted to the scent of a porky. I know that my lab was acting weird in the bottom of a coulee 2 years ago. Not birdy like when she is on a pheasant just weird. She was circling this rose bush and whimpering. I got over to her and she was trying to find a way into the bush to get at a porky. Luckily the bush was too tight for her to find a way in quickly. I am still not sure how the porky got into the center of it. I do feel for the dog though. Crap the quills are in his back legs even! He must have been at that thing for a while.
