Default Wall tent size

I was looking at buying a wall tent this weekend ... Maybe get a deal at the boat and sportsmans show, was gonna go with delux wall tents . I was just wondering if a 16 by 20 footer would be too big . Maximum 4 people inside I would say .or should I go with 14 by 16 ?

I've been in smaller ones that feel cramped . I guess knowone probly bought one and thought they should've gone smaller . How much more wood would it take to heat a bigger tent ? I wonder . Any suggestions or experiences ?

14x16 would be plenty room for 4 people, including gear, stove etc. I had Fort Macpherson tents. In my opinion they are superior quality. They ship via bus and are very good to deal with and are competitive in pricing. Suggest you check there web site. Good luck.

Having owned several sizes over the years, I would say as well that a 14x16 would be plenty for 4 people, however I would caution to make sure that you get the 4 foot walls at a minimum, and that 5 foot would be better.
Also, if you have the detachable awning/vestibule, a 12x14 works well for us with up to 5 people, as the high walls allow better use of the space all the way to the edges, and you can generally cook and eat out under the awning

12x14 is tight with 4 guys the wood burner and gear but it stays toasty. I would go with a 14x16x5 next time if I knew I was always hunting with 4 buddies.

I use a 12x14, works good with 4 and gear, no room for eating or sitting around the stove if it's nasty outside. 2 guys it's great if you want to sit inside and shoot stories. If I knew we would have 4 + guys in camp all the time, i would go bigger. Mostly it's 2 or 3 in our group at anyone time.

I also have a 12 x 14 and find if perfect for 3-4 people (+ dog sometimes). I have a canopy on mine which is nice to store gear out of the elements.

I have a 14 x 16 and is great for the extra room, comfortable with 4 and a place to keep gear out of the rain.
would go with 5 foot walls instead of 3.5.
I have the internal frame, 15 minutes to set up!

14x16 is fine...I have one and was good for even 6 guys when we made some bunks but got a bit tight. For past 7 years now we use a 16x20 with 8' porch tent made by Deluxe Wall Tents. We have 9 guys in camp now and its ok as we have the Disc-O-Cot bunks and works great for guys to double up and save some room.

If you plan to do cooking and partying in the tent with a table with the 4 guys - cant go wrong with 16x20. If you spend more time around the firepit at night and have a cook shack setup away from the walltent, 14x16 is good.

I have a 12x14x5 with a 4' awning and pipe hole in the side with the interior pipe frame. Lots of room for two and can put the wood in the awning to keep out of the weather along with water pails and other things.

For a maximum of 4 guys, a 16x20 is too big. Yes, you'll have lots of space but you may find it hard to keep warm with typical woodstoves - set up your cot close to the stove if you go this route!

I've got a 14x16 with a 5 foot porch and its perfect for 4 or less people. As mentioned by another guy, definitely get 5 foot walls - makes for more room and less wasted space along the sides.

Good luck.

I also have a 14x16 by Deluxe Wall tents, with a porch. A friend liked my tent so much, he went and bought a 16x20 - here's what we noticed with it:

-Yes, it is big, which means you need a bigger area to set it up in - that's relatively flat.
-It is much heavier and bulkier to pack and transport.
-Snow load on the roof seemed to be more stressing on the tent than the 14x16

We have put up to 5 Cabela's XL Outfitters cots in my 14x16, with a woodstove. In -38, we can wear a T-shirt inside, it gets that warm.

With 5 cots, it gets cramped, 4 is ideal. If you need extra space during the day, you can lift and stack two cots on top of the other two, while they aren't being used. If you have smaller folks, or kids, take a look at the Cabela's bunk bed cots to save additional room. Not for bigger guys, as they are just too cramped.

I would go with a 16x20. Then you have lots of room to cook inside and if you have an extra guest you still have room. Ours is a 16x24x5 Montana. We sleep six in the tent and still have room to cook inside.

always keep in mind the 14x16 is easier to keep warm, room is nice but heat is better.

Remember guys cooking inside a tent where you sleep is not all that good of an idea. BEARS!!!! we have a no food rule in the tent in our camp. You can never be too careful, we all have families, it only takes once for a bear to come calling.
