Went on a northern sask black bear hunt with kisslinger outfitters few weeks ago and brought the bow along. Was hunting over bait and had the time of my life. First night I saw 8 different bears in 3 hrs in the stand, had 4 there at the same time for over a hour, few trying to climb my stand and say hi. next night 10mins in and this guy walks out. missed my first shot low at 20yds, he looked behind him, but didnt move and gave me enough time to nock another arrow. 2nd shot was full pass through and hit the lungs. found the arrow 5 ft behind where he was standing. ran 100yds and piled up in thick muskeg. Used a grim reaper with a 61lb hoyt charger. Couldnt be happier. Bear measured 7ft long and the skull green scored at 21". getting it beetle cleaned then officially scored and see if it will make B&C. Makes P&Y for sure. Great outfit up there.
Congrats on your bear, looks like pretty open country around the bait station and you would be able to see them coming or going for abit. Seems like some baits are usally in thick areas with not that good of visability.
ya the area was fairly open. you got to see them come in from fairly far away. some stands were not as open but this one was good. the forest had a fire go through a few years ago so lots of deadfall / new growth. we were up by la loche,sk. thanks everyone!
here is a video of the shot. I had a spypoint xcel hd zip tied to my bow. first time trying to film anything, and of course blocked the camera after the shot. you can see him notice the first arrow and the second makes him run north of the camera where he was around 100yds away. make sure you click watch in hd. i wish i could have zoomed in a bit, but o well. currently editing the video time. only good for the first min.
if you pause it slightly after the first shot when the camera goes right you can see a sow in a tree with her 2 cubs above her. cant see the cubs really but you can see her. they came down to eat after i shot the big guy.
