The ears look too big and it looks like it has a long muzzle. My money goes on dog. May be the reflection from the eyes that distort the face though?

i would say cougar for two reasons
1. it looks like its tail is long and fat like a cougar
2. Its eyes are highly reflective like a cats for night vision.

definitely not a cat with those pointy ears. Can't tell color due to flash, but doesn't have the differential in the coat to be wolf. quite a smooth looking coat, almost like dog Would only put money on it not being a cat though..

I believe that would be a German Shepard. Excellent work Ehntr. I wonder though, if you were to shoot the bugger would it be considered 'Pooching'?

ehuntr's resize tells the story, thats a dog. I ran 2 filters over it, hoping that would help. Maybe, maybe not but I'm sure it's a dog .

upon further and closer examination of the pict I too have come to the conclusion that it is a dog. Dog never came to mind on first thought but the shorter tail than that of a cat and the longer nose and more pointed ears sort of give it away. Obviously someone didn't want their dog and took it to the hills, then returned without said pet. W
