Default Bedding scope mounts.

Just bedded this set this morning. I polished past wax on top of the receiver and waxed the screws. The front ring/base is snugged down and the back one is loose with rings in place. In theory this should take most of the stress out of the system and keep the bases from moving under recoil. I’ll probably leave the bases in place, degrease the mounting holes and then thread lock the new base screws in place with Vibra-tite

I'm curious why the rear base screw (looks to be there in the picture) is left loose while things set?

To allow horizontal alignment.

And what was the improvement from pre “bedding rings”(?) to post?

We will find out I guess. I have lapped the rings. Im torn on the necessity of that step. But it is done. The scope will go on in the coming days.

When I epoxy base to receiver , I epoxy the base to the reciever , no release agent. I do wax the screws so they can be removed .

I’ve done that as well.

When you're lapping here, are the bases screwed down tight? Seems to me they must be, but the tape has me wondering.

They are torqued and in their final resting place. The tape is just there to keep the lapping compound out of the crevices.

I bought a little kimber a year or two ago that had the bases AND screws glued down with jb weld or devcon. I spent an awful amount of time and heat removing the screws and cleaning the mess up.

At least you haven’t epoxied the screws in.

The bases and screws came right off and out. There is no epoxy on the receiver or in the screw holes. I’ve cleaned up that kind of mess before and have no desire to do so again.
