Default Milkweed

I noticed around the local bridge, maybe 5 or 6 years ago, that there were a bunch of milkweed plants popping up. Since then, Ive been noticing plants along roadways all over down south. Im curious if someone has been starting them or it they are naturally spreading. Nice to see them, we can always use more butterly food, just wondering if its a natural spreading occurrance

There are more of every kind of weed spreading in the ditch these days.
I think they only mow the ditches once in the fall now.

I understand that in some areas, people are flagging roadside milkweed patches and asking the county not mow or spray those patches. I know that provincial entomologists are asking anyone who's seen a Monarch butterfly in the province this year to report it to their researchers.

thats a great idea. they do really stand out so hopefully the mowers skip over them. I actually grabbed a bunch of pods the first time I saw them here, guess I will decorate my ditch in spring ! Havent seen any monarchs yet but the flowers around here are pretty far apart
