Default Bourbon

The scotch thread got me thinking about the other alcohol threads, and not many mention bourbon.

I quite like Bernheim, Blantons, Wyoming, Woodford Reserve and Basil Haydens. I've got a couple bottles which are taking a while to vanish, Knob Creek being one of them.

The Wyoming Whiskey is different for a bourbon, much sweeter with a bit of peat. If you can find it, it's worth the sip.

So, who drinks bourbon?

I'm pretty sure the Japanese used bourbon to get the English to give up military secrets during the second world war.....just a couple drops down the throat got them talking.

I'm more into bourbon than scotch, try Four Roses, Jeffersons reserve, Van Winkle, Bookers

Bernheim and Wyoming aren't bourbons as to be considered bourbon it must, by US Law, be made in Bourbon County, Kentucky and be at least 51% sour mash ( corn ). Jack is NOT bourbon btw

Kannon, quick on the trigger for Wyoming!

I've had bookers several times, it's good. I just don't have a jar of it currently.

Default Makers Mark

I had almost acquired a taste for it a few years ago.
I thought the rule for bourbon was corn mash, 51% and at least 4 years old?
Makers does have that smokey flavor as they burn the barrels.

OOoohh! A thread I can get into.
Makers is very good. Knob creek is good. Evan Williams is excellent, Beam black is a good reliable drink.
Rebel yell and Basil Haydens are nice too.

JD is swill and not bourbon at all.

Evan Williams is a good starter, not going to break the bank to try, four roses is nice and mild, soft and to me, a bit sweet. Makers was my first and still a fav in Manhattans

Been a Wild Turkey guy for years. My brother in law bought me a bottle of Costcos brand and I was shocked how good it was for the price...

Don't quote me but was told that costco bourbon (Kirkland) is a variant of Knob Creek, so made by Jim Beam

I've heard that also and the taste makes me lean towards believing it.

Who drinks bourbon?

THIS GUY!

And while I know Jack is technically not bourbon, I figured Jack&7 sounded a lot better than something like Knob&7.

Bourbon and 7up is my fave mixed drink but I do like it straight up too.

I do like Maker's and Beam Black, but I am currently repeatedly 'sampling' a bottle of Labrot & Graham Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select.

Damn fine for the price...

The last time I tried it was a few years ago and I believe it was on sale for $35 or so.

Give it a try. even if it isn't made by Beam, it is good bourbon.

Makers 46 and makers are my top picks. Have tried woodford and dislike the stronger oak it has.
Knob creek is also in the cabinet when I want a stronger flavour.

I've enjoyed Woodford Reserve; I gifted some to my Step-Dad and he adores the stuff, noting its the only bourbon he even likes. I'm pretty infrequent with my imbibing though personally. At present consumption rates I think my bar is stocked until my natural demise of old age (I might have to correct that statement though considering that my lad will at some point become a teenager...)

Just grabbed some more Jim Beam at duty free on the weekend. Stays around longer for me as my friends have never acquired a taste for Bourbon

I'll be happily watching this thread. Bourbon I know nothing about... I've been inclined to give it a better shot.

I only know Scotch and Craft Beer

Woodford reserve is one of my bang for the buck whiskeys (bourbon is a whiskey, like rye, just a specification)

I have a maker's mark '67 or something like that that I'm not fussy about.

Buffalo trace is fantastic. I highly recommend it, very balanced flavour.

Jack is classified as tennesee whiskey and is a very unique flavour and manner of processing. When I'm in the caribbean, I mix two parts jack, one part finlandia grapefruit vodka in a tall glass over ice. Top it up with lemonade and you have what I call a sneaky-jack.

The americans I routinely goad into trying it call it "high octance" "whooo!" and "thump" as they hit the ground.

Where did you buy it from? Tried Bullit and Makers Mark, both were great!
