Powder 39.6gr h4350.Hornady cases.cci primer.Of course cases, trimmed and resized to spec.Have not seen any reason to go to max on velocity--accuracy good, deer shot at have so far dropped in there tracks.

Wink T3x and 6.5 CM

What's more to want, for the money they shoot like some more expensive brands. Money well spent, JMO. Have custom guns that will do as good but much higher $$$$$. Oh can't take it with you. !! LOL

At the price point of a T3X there are a lot of choices out there that will do just as well - Howa, CZ, Weatherby, Savage, Bergara, Sauer to name a few.

I agree, the price of the Tikka has come up considerably over the past 5 years making it score a little lower on the “bang for your buck” scale, but it’s still a great option imo. The things I like about the Tikka are the 70 degree bolt throw, the smooth action of the bolt, the out of the box accuracy, and beleive it or not the cheap plastic stock. I don’t feel bad about banging a Tikka around, strapping it on a quad or lending it out.

I’m the same. I have some T3s. IMO there wasn’t much wrong with the T3 as it was. Take off the stock, lower the trigger pull, replace the recoil lug with stainless or titanium, spray some nonexpanding foam into the stock, put on a limbsaver recoil pad. Maybe replace the bolt shroud. I’ve replaced a few and kept a few stock. Only had one crack. And the smallish ejection port is a nonissue. You are not going to be top loading that magazine while it’s in the rifle in any event. For 2 hours time and a few $bucks a T3 was just as good IMO.

5-shot group results:
ES: 25
SD: 9.6
After multiple 5- shot groups off bench rest, I conclude that accuracy is from 0.5-0.9MOA.

129 Long Range Accubond over Varget produced my lowest ES/SD at 9/3.6, but group size was in the 1.5MOA range. Velocity was 2864fps.

I went for accuracy and velocity over statistics. If I ever shot at extreme long range, I would be more focused on a load with both great accuracy, velocity and low SD/ES.

If you want speed, shoot the LRAccubond over RL17. I got them up to 3061fps! (Disclaimer: start low and work your way up...)

For target shooters, pushing to the limit may be neccessary. Not the case for hunters.Field ready--To take down animals at ranges were the chance of wounding is limited,I have let animals go that I didnt feel confident of a humane kill. The hornady 143eldx 6.5 creedmoor, at 2600 fps gets the job done.

You must own the Varmint model, because the Lite comes in lighter than almost all the options listed by Buckhead.

Nice deer coyoteman.

If my rifle were only intended for target, I would probably back off on velocity and focus on gleaning greater accuracy and a tighter ES in velocity. Probably in the 0.4-0.6MOA range rather than the 0.5-0.9MOA that it is currently shooting.

I would certainly not look for higher velocity than the current 2780fps to bang gongs at extended range up to 1000yds.

By your own definition of field ready, as written above, my load is undeniably capable of a humane kill at ranges in which I am confident of a humane kill. As is yours. Not sure what the argument would be here??

I think it is great that you have passed up some long shots. So have most other hunters.

That for sure is true.As a long term hunter,Its not about a better rifle. The rifle is the easy part. The hard part is to determine were the game is,and how to get in ethical range. The consistant takeing of trophy game, comes down to a lot of hard work and observation, persistance, endurace, and every now and then luck. The 6.5 creedmoor is a tool I carry, and use well.

My intent was not really to show off the casing. As implied, it is 6.5CM with the load listed a few posts up in the thread.

Bet he didnt go far, when hit.But you left out the good part, range. and altitude.Worked a number of years in the mountains, and did some modest climbing. Not for everybody,I was sucking hard for air in no time.AS the mountain climbing guys were yawning and waiting for me to catch up. The right combination--Good rifle--Good shooter--Good hunter--Will consistantly bring game home.

No NO NO dont change anything--The low recoil 6.5 creedmoor is an ideal range gun.Now all you have to do is buy a light all day carry field gun in 6.5 Creedmoor. Then you have the very best of both worlds.

My post was a joke- that is not just a “range rifle” it is a dedicated single shot , iron sighted match rifle !
I would not even bother getting a Creedmoor to hunt with when I already have a excellent hunting rifles in 6.5x55 and 6.5x284.
Okay maybe if I ran into a Ruger no1 or an 1885 in 6.5 Creed but even then it would be iffy

Yes we do--Matter of fact, not long ago while doing some fine tuneing with the 6.5 Creedmoor a gopher came out,at about 60m I slowed him down with the 1st shot, and finished him with the 2nd---only about a foot from the gopher hole.Another notch in that fine weapon.143gr yes boy.

I thought the 6.5 Creed and those ELDX things were invincible, defeated by needing a second shot on a gopher? Say it isn't so.
