I was going to suggest you have a look at the buy and sell as someone has posted an Orvis combo for a decent price but I noticed that it was you. The NXT combo is fine if not great, for my preference the Orvis is a bit better though. What don’t you like about the Orvis?

One thing you might want to consider is getting away from the combo. They usually make a compromise somewhere to hit a price point and it seems like that’s usually the line. I’d much rather cast a bad rod with a good line on it rather than the opposite. In terms of gear performance for fishing in these parts I would say line first, then rod then reel.

Consider trying another line on the Orvis because I have a feeling if you buy that NXT you would want to upgrade the line to something like a RIO Mainstream WF anyway.

I bought the 5/6 and 8/9 NXT combos back in 2014! They have worked great for me and I really like the warranty! Since they are in Calgary, I have sent in the broken rod piece and $30, have the rod back within a week! I have only used TFO and Fenwick, so I can’t compare the combo to more expensive rods. I catch fish and get fishing again quickly if I break part of the rod!

There are two different versions of this. I’m pretty sure the one at Canadian tire doesn’t come with a case and the one at Cabelas does, if I’m correct or if it makes a difference to you.

OK. There are two different versions listed on the TFO Canada website and that is really the only difference I can see. One at $200, one at about $270.

Thanks Ormachek for finding this for me,
picked one up for $200, $60 cheaper than anywhere else.
Can use the $60 towards better line
That Canadian Tire has a good fishing and hunting department compared to most.
