I have curved blades on my auger so I bought the sword looking sharper from CT. It worked very well. And I can sharpen my knives too. It's the round rod about 10 inches long.

They are on the west end of the city. I can't recall the exact address but google got me there. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but they sharpened my two Strikemaster chipper blades in about an hour and charged me $12.

I use a file and my bench vise lol. Keep the file flat to the blade angle and youll be golden. Don't drink too much though..... Really sucks slipping off the blade.... Easy to tell when its sharp as heck though lol

This is my method as well, but I clamp it to a workbench so the blade sits flat. With most blades I draw file along on the top edge, carefully following the existing angle to keep things proper, lightly take the burr off of the bottom when you are done. If you file too much on the bottom edge it is possible to screw up the edge angle and it can be a bugger to get it back.

Regular sharpening (every year or so depending on how much use your auger gets) makes for easy touch ups. If you let your blades get dull, or accidently run them into the bottom then it can be a PITA to get them working properly again.

interesting that you guys use a file, when I did mine I really thought they needed a good edge and sharpened them up to 8000grit and stropped it. perhaps unnecessary! but it cut good.

Some of those blades can be a really pain to get off (forgot popular brand name). Like speckles said shims might be needed. I would just replace them with new blades and have the old ones sharpened by a pro for back up. If you treat your auger right sharp blades should last a couple years. Always have blade covers on when travelling.
