On a side note, James Hetfield lead singer of Metalica was on Joe Rogans podcast maybe a month ago and he is a very avid bee keeper...

Sure thing. Their propolis is another thing I always keep in my cabinet. Works on a sore throat or cold better than any Rx I tried. Tell Theo that his nephew (or cousin if it is Jr.) Tom sent you. They are great people, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone more knowledgeable about bees than my uncle, and he will talk your ear off if he knows you keep bees. Or even if you don't.

I think natural honey is real food and probably good for you if not over done. I think pasteurized honey is just sugar.

I enjoy Alberta Honey, but I am always thrilled to get some Acacia Honey from Hungary.

It is my fave

I like Nixon Honey, currently working through a kilo of honey from a family friend. Also very good. So long as it's quality honey and unpasteurized it is usually very good. Honey has such a complex smell and flavour, it is really very enjoyable trying different kinds.

I think this would be the best honey hands down. Sweetens your palette and numbs your pain. A true nectar of the gods....
Not sure is is being made in Alberta though. Innovative.

My wife has always had a 'thing' for farmer's market apiarists! She thinks they always look so gentle & peaceful in their straw hats, calmly smiling and moving slow & gracefully.

I think they're stoned, but she thinks they're "gentle souls".

Good thread, now i can find some local made stuff here.
Is this the one that has a sign on her property "watch out for bears"? And has a chunk of a steel rail hanging with a note on it that "bell doesn't work, bang on the rail"?
We found her a few years ago driving thru the area, just by accident. Her honey was delicious but her appearance made me nervous... She looked really ruff, my wife even jokingly said that we should keep an eye on her and not worry about bears....

I just bought a tub of their honey, it's delicious.

I need to hit up my bee keeper tennant, I haven't had any of the sticky deliciousness from my fields for a couple of years. He pays his rent 12kg at a time, it lasts us a long time.

Whenever I'm in the Oktoks area, I drop by Chinook honey.

Lots of variety, they carry whatever local apiaries have been producing. They also have samples and a variety of meads.

We use Philpot Honey in Duchess. We go through at least 60lbs a year. If your ever in the Duchess area it's worth stopping in and getting some.

I don't know what's the best, but I got this stuff from a nice older lady at the HP gun show and is pretty good, the cinnamon seems to work. Bought some regular stuff too - phone # included so she gets some free advertising I guess

Our neighbours run one and stay fairly busy in the summer, they truck them down to southern BC to overwinter. There is probably 2 more pretty close to, all set up on alfalfa or alfalfa mix hay fields.

There is a farm that sells honey on the 519 (Nobleford to Granum) closer to granum. Seen the sign many times but never stopped to get any. Might be worth checking out wildbill.

Dont remember the name but you cant miss the sign.

edit: they have been selling for quite a while so may be good.

edit II: If it is good, let us all know.

The gas station/convenience store in Granum just off 519 sells locally produced honey.

I was looking for beeswax for my blackpowder lube and was directed to the # above. It's a fellow AO mbr's son who has a couple hives in on backyard in Calgary. I ended up also buying a kg of honey off him.
It was pretty darn good. We've since switched to raw honey

They aren't your small producer and don't know if they sell retail, but Scandia Honey, in Scandia is interesting to see just for an idea of the scale of the honey market.
