I watch, as a matter of fact I was in negotiations for a claim that bordered Parker's Fantasy Land. Once we saw Parker strike out on Fantasy Land we were sure glad we didn't pull the trigger on that claim.

We also picked up Tony Beets hitch hiking(waiting for a cab at Micheners Auction) and gave him a ride to his hotel, he insisted on buying us a drink for the ride, 4 hours later we helped him get to his room(he doesn't normally drink lol) we had a great time with him listening to his stories about Hoffman and gold mining.

As I said, their "operators" are pretty poor. I like when they can't keep up to the plant and they are still backing in trucks to the hoe instead of pulling up beside it. Then pulling away, waiting for the next truck to back up. How many more swings could that hoe make, and how many more rounds could a truck make if they simply side loaded the trucks instead of backing into the hoe. Its ridiculous. The hoe should never be waiting, that's a sin.

How much do you think never gets claimed?
I would bet that unless there is an armed guard there for every cleanout, a whole bunch of real heavy coffee cans make their way back home that were never accounted for.
I know they discuss it quite a bit in the show. If I remember correctly Tony charges Parker 20% of the gold haul. Then I think 25-30% after 2000 ounces. I'm not sure what the government takes, but I have always assumed it must be something. Possibly just income taxes????

Lots of things could be done different to be more productive. Those guys wouldn't last til first coffee break in the patch. Well maybe they could be pipeliners.

Don't kid yourself. Even the patch has its share of seat warmers, and window-lickers. I have met more than I care to admit. Also, don't try and rile up the deep-diggers, and high-dumpers. Those guys are sensitive.

Canada owns the land that the coal and oil comes from too. They aren't taxed at a 50% royalty. In my opinion, if the government took 50% from these miners, they wouldn't be mining.

Yes because only "less educated trailer trash" believe in God?

Wow, you're a class act.

Once a month put all the guys in a ring, the winner gets to run around and pretend he is running the show.

Did you get the part about Tony's daughter. She is building a house outside of Dawson that is not accessable for 3 mths of the year. Why would one do that? Not that it's any of my business.

As well there was a documentary of how Tony & his wife spend the winter in Arizona. I believe he was driving around in a Ferrari. I think the guy works like a fool so good for him. Nice to see that people who use their brains & apply themselves can do well. Not sure how Todd fits in that equation though.

As a free miner in bc I do not report my income. If I want to build credit and increase operations size I have to open a business and post revenue.

Tony Beets and his right hand man Cheeseman are hands down the most accomplished and best miners on the show. Watch it mainly for them.

Hoffman is a bad gambler. Never thinks and makes poor decisions all the time. I can watch that train wreck.

Parker has turned into a grumpy little snot with no people skills and looks homeless. Dont like him anymore but like his whole crew.

I bet Shnozzle would take Hoffman in the later rounds, due his endurance and, not being fat!

I agree, but it makes for entertaining TV. Makes a guy feel good about himself too. Lol

Probably because she only lives there in mining season? Probably has a winter place near mom and pop in Arizona.

Hoffman definitely makes the wrong choices. At the end of last years season I thought to myself, well next year should make for an interesting delema and sure enough it's plaid out as expected. He should have stayed in the Klondike and stopped rolling the dice on some loosely tossed nuggets or at the very least ran core samples that determined what he was up against. Now on the other hand there's Dave, basically the back bone of the crew and why he didn't pipe up and call it a questionable move we will never know. I'm impressed with the man Parker is becoming and impressed with Tony's plan of action with keeping the cost low and the yield high, with some growing pains of coarse. Gold rush is good! Tony's my favourite, a real mans man.

I love this thread. I laughed out loud a few times "Jack praying to God to make him rich" was my favourite - what a hypocrite.

I watch the show because it's entertaining. Like a head wound or Train wreck. The Hoffman's are definitely clowns.

How many times can good old Jack talking through his nose wreck something and then stand there blinking stupidly?

How many times can Todd completely ignore what is proven and works works only to suddenly tear off in another direction and invest time and money to chase some stupid goose chase million dollar idea that doesn't work?

I can see that Parker's ego and poor attitude toward his workers definitely is a problem - but hey - how many of us accomplished as much as he has at such a young age. I do respect him for that.

As a side note - I saw Tony in late fall at the Edmonton Airport clearing US customs about a dozen people back from me. He is bigger in real life that I expected. Pretty tall actually. I somehow imagined him to be short when watching the show.

He was also wearing exactly the same clothes he wore on the show and even had his work boots on.

Tony has came a long way from milking cows in BC and now he owns most of the gold claims in and around Dawson, good guy in my books.
