Default Walleye in Brazeau Reservoir

Always wondered why I have never heard of people catching walleye in the Brazeau Reservoir. It seems to me it would be great habitat for walleye and there were always walleye in the river before the dam was put in and they are found in the river below the dam. Plenty of pike. Perch?? Anybody have any ideas?

Actually not that many walleye go up the North Sask river that far. In the area where Brazeau river joins with the North Sask river the rivers are transitioning to become cold water streams. Cold water streams hold more trout.

Walleye in the river start thinning out when you get above Drayton Valley.

I've caught my fair share of walleye out of the tail race at the plant.(you knew that Bushrat)
I've never heard of walleye getting caught in the canal. And I've never heard about walleye out of the reservoir.

Seems they aren't found upstream of the powerhouse.

Yes, they have always been in the Brazeau river immediately below the dam and were historically found in the river miles above the dam site before it was put in, that's why I wonder about it, some fish must have got trapped there when the reservoir was filled but somehow didn't survive like the pike did. The habitat in my mind seems like it would be superb for walleye. Just doesn't make sense (at least to me) that there are none in there. Anybody know if they have ever tried stocking it?

Yeah back to that your right it would be a good idea to stock it with the big rocks and boulders it would be great walleye place you'd think anyway. Take some from wabamun or slave lake and put some in there too even s few thousand and just see what happens, I'm sure they'd do good
