Default Anyone build DIY bows or hunt with a DIY bow

To build a DIY bow and successfully hunt with it has been basically a bucket list hunting goal of mine. I have looked at different options from board bows, self bows carved from a staff and even laminate recurves. Thinking a form of board bow might be a good starting choice without getting too costly

Pretty good with my hands and have experience shooting trad bows so it should be feasible but definitely new to me

Anyone have any experience with successfully building their own bow? Any advice?

Would be interesting to see pics from any successful hunts with a DIY bow

I have been building self bows for a couple years. Started making bows for the kids. Just board bows. Then I got some sugar maple staves and have made a couple, gave a couple away. Broke a couple, dont have a complete one on hand right now but have a couple in different stages. My end game is to harvest a big game animal with a saskatoon bow with wood from my property. But i havent found a piece of saskatoon that my skillset could work with.
It's a lot of fun though.
Build a shaving horse, get on the youtube, and have some fun
