Default Two way radios

Hi folks, I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for a set of two way radios.
I only need a mile or two at most for range around my acreage. And over to the neighbours. No hills in the way, some trees though.

I’ve had a couple different brands in the past, but none were very good.

Thanks eh

Well, if the FRMS are not long distance enough for you I would reccomend a couple of CB handhelds, or if they are stationary get a base station (countertop type) for even more range.

Canada limits FRS radios to 1/2 watt transmission, so they don't travel far. GRMS can go farther with higher watts, and most handheld 2 way radios have frequencies for both.

I believe in Canada even GRMS are limited to 2 watts. CB radios are generally 4 watts, which will do you for about 3 miles. Some Single Side Band CBs can go much higher.

I’ve had good luck with the baofeng handheld radios. Use them a lot in mountain terrain.

Ty lithium instead of normal alkaline batteries, I’ve noticed a significant range improvement with lithium AA and AAA batteries in my 2way radios

If you or anyone goes to USA pickup some 5 W FRS.

X2 on Baofeng. UV-5R is your best bang for your buck. 5 Watts TX. Just upgrade the antenna to a Nagoya 771.
