I know what telemarking is Ken and I don't do it. It's a backcountry technique that requires different skis, boots and uses skins on skis for uphill. Like I said I xcountry ski and leave the telemarking to backcountry guys.

Ice fishing is very much staying active in my neck of the woods. I don't drive to my holes.

My activities this winter will include tying wire worms, flies, ice fishing, and winter camping.

My apologies, and very good of you, not many do that anymore. If they can't drive to the shack without stepping in snow they dont go.

I haven't ice fished in nearly 10 years, again since salt fishing I just can not be bothered. May as well throw a line in an aquarium.

My winters mostly ice fishing at least 4 times a week. Will be spending more time in Texas and good golfing down there. Winter I am very active.

I know it's not super strenuous or heavy cardio but I remember a damn good sweat and sore joints for days.

Anyone else enjoy table tennis?

Or what are your plans for fall/winter other than pushing bush?
I dunno if this counts as "pushing bush", but most of my winter is spent on snowshoes, covering as much un-tracked bush as I can, just looking at game tracks and learning what I can. Most of what I've learned in regards to taking the luck out of timber hunting has been learned this way. So much bush and so little time....

I tried x country skiing, but I get bored pretty fast if I stay on a trail too long, so snowshoes are more my thing.

If you use those snowshoes for ice fishing too it can be a pretty active past time. I usually keep two lines going, drill a hole and fish it for 5 minuets, leave the line set while I drill another hole and move/ fish my other line etc... Hop scotch those two lines down the shore of the lake any distance and its pretty physical, and you're bound to find a nice fish or two. Last year I snowshoed onto the Narrows at Slave Lake and spent the night in my ice tent... that involved pulling a very heavy sled a good distance. I was bushed by the time I got back to the truck for sure.

Lots of snowmobiling, some snow shoeing and cross country skiing while out checking martin traps and exercising the dog.

Went curling three times a week last winter but I'm kind of unsure now, especially since two times are in the seniors leagues.

Just won 7 games to 5 against an asian guy 20+ years younger than me.

Going to be a fun fall/winter.

Get your sleds ready, ski waxed, snow shoes repaired, and ping pong arm strengthened. Farmers almanac predicts early winter.

Our reaction to Covid has pretty much made me set up my home gym a little better. My gym now doesn’t open till 6am so my 430 am workouts are gone.
We now also have to wear a mask. Breathing in that warm air after it rebounds off your mask is an absolute cardio and strength killer.
I’m now set up with 5 to 100 pound dumbells. Pull up and dip station and a couple benches. Have to adapt I guess...

That’s awesome. I learned to play from a kid down the street from me in Fort McMurray who’s Dad won championships in China. They were table tennis and tennis prodigies. Kurt505 probably remembers him...

I was in Beijing 1990 (one year after Tianimmen square revolution), very quiet. However I ventured to see a couple schools. The school yards had ping pong tables outside against the brick walled school (40-50 pong tables per school). Like coming to Canada and seeing basketball hoops or a Tetherball in schoolyards.

8 games to 3 against the same guy just now.

He hurt his knee, so I told him he is moving like me now.

He is 25 years younger than me, him being hobbled a little evens the odds.

He just has natural ability, can spin the ball like crazy at will.

It sure is fun.

I love table tennis too! But had to sell my table 2 years ago because of lack of room. I plan on playing hockey this winter but it will just be my team renting the ice instead of our normal league play

I was tired of chasing balls under the trucks, started with this and have since sewed in loops and hung it with ropes. Works great! Bought 60 feet of cheap fabric for $40. There is about 5' on each side and 10' front and back
