Will you do that on service?

I consider myself a car enthusiast, and most in that category are aware that the majority of dealer's profit comes from financing, service, and parts. Pretty sure the tech in the back isn't getting anywhere near the $150/hr they charge out at. If you could figure out a way to draw the same number of customers in, I'd guess you'd ditch car sales altogether.

I'm unfortunately not in the market, but are you ordering in any TRXs? I'm curious how they'll sell, that's a high MSRP, but it's also alot of hp.

I read your other posts on here. You sound like one of the upfront, ethical and long term view Dealers that exist but can be hard to find. If you read my other posts on here you would know yours is exactly the type of Dealership I suggested all buyers try to find. Not very feasible for someone in Edmonton to deal in High Level but there are lots of good dealerships in Edmonton and area if you look for them. Once you find a good one, well worth sticking with them for purchase, parts and service. Still hard to beat a relationship based approach for ensuring satisfaction on both sides.

I’m just going to chip in a little story because I think it encapsulates a lot of the issues some of us have had with dealers in a neat package. Just happened five minutes ago.

The glass hinge on my Jeep broke, Google says Courtesy Chrysler is offering them for $75. I call to check availability and they say, “yes we have them, $113”. Ok says I, your website says $75. “Yeah we only offer that discount on the website, you have to order it there.” Ok but can I still pick it up? “Yep we’ll have it ready same day”. They just called me to come get it in fact.

So you’re gonna charge a guy that walks in your door $40 more than somebody who orders it from their couch then walks in your door 30 minutes later? Keeping the website price artificially low so I don’t go to Rock Auto first perhaps?

That’s some greasy BS right there. The rest of the world doesn’t work like that any more and the auto sector better get with the program. I know a few people that bought Teslas this year and every single one of them said they loved not having to do all this crap.

Default Tesla

Funny you would mention Tesla. I was thinking the same thing about how the industry works. Tesla has a completely different marketing and sales model. I hope the rest of the industry takes note and follows suite.

I agree - that's greasy - but it's business ….. and the economics makes sense because ….

If you order online through them, your money pays for the item and shipping up front and the dealer gets a commission.

If they bring something in for stock they need to pay for it and tie up working capital in inventory, pay for shipping, and hope they stock the right stuff and hope it goes out the door. Since most companies operate on credit, they are paying interest on the freight, the cost of the item, paying the person who stocks it, pulls it off the shelf for you, and the person who answers the phone.

But yeah, I understand it, but it still seems greasy …..that's why so many online and virtual businesses make more money on skinnier margins.

I thought that with technology today we could get past the 1970's sterotypes.
Theyre not paying anything for used cars right now. Most of them get sent to auction or across the border and simply aren't worth much during the crisis.

I meant that in jest. I have a fairly good rapport with EZM, and I have a hard time believing he was terribly offended

If this was a special order, drop ship from the manufacturer situation I’d agree with you but that’s not the case. I called them at 1:30pm and had the part in hand by 3:00pm. They took my “internet order”, printed the invoice then called me 30 minutes later and said come get it. The invoice even says list $113 and net price $75.

They are only willing to price competitively when they have to. Which price do you think it would have been if I got them to install it rather than doing it myself?

Default Salesman Wanted Must Look Honest Sign

All this about salesmen at dealerships remind me of a sign I once saw on the wall of a dealership in Edmonton. The sign read "Salesman Wanted Must Look Honest".

Default Update

I thought I would update the thread with my current dealings.

I had a deal worked out on a vehicle. They were offering me a very fair price on my trade in. The salesman was a older mature fellow and very nice to deal with. Then it went off the rails. I had a deposit on a truck that I had not seen but I didnt want to loose it to another buyer. (had happened a couple times already)

I was told they needed to detail it and bring it over from one of there other locations. A week goes buy and I put off plans for my weekend (fishing trip) thinking I would pick up my truck and pay for it. Well I am told there are a couple rock chips and they are going to paint them.

Next week end I Put off the fishing trip again as I am reassured I can pick up the truck. I get a call and I am told that its not done yet.

Tuesday the next week I get a call saying that the truck has been in two accidents one over $10K in damages. The truck is a 2018 with less that 30Km .

Needless to say I backed out of the deal.

Default Another Update

I found another truck I like. I call the dealer and the receptionist asks me to hold while she puts me through to used sales. There are a couple beeps then I hear on the other line and I quote " I am going to F"""ing strangle you give me the damn phone" Then I hear a click as I get hung up on.

I call back and inform the receptionist of what happend and she giggles appologizes and puts me through to used sales again. A salesperson picks up the phone. I ask him if he is going to strangle me. He says ohh you heard that? I said yes, he says he was sorry but they have a guy on there team who is an A hole and isnt a "team player"

At this point I just want to buy a dang truck so I ask him if they have the truck that is advertised on the lot. He looks it up and says "you bet" I ask him if he is sure and he replies with you bet. I ask him to verify that its on the lot before I drive a 100KM to see it (i live out of town). He calls me back and of course it is already sold.

I cant win for loosing on this.

Default Help

I have since found a Nissan Titan 2019 with 9000KM Platinum reserve. Its heavily discounted. Seems like a great truck and the price is in my range. I dont know much about Titans. Any advice???

I am nervous that such a new lightly used vehicle is so discounted.

That reminds me of a time where I walked into an office of one of those corner sales lots to ask about a truck they had. There was a fellow on the phone who had his back to me. He was using the same vernacular as you described.

When he realized I was standing there, he looked extremely sheepish. I stated something to the effect of, "I think I'm done here," and left.

just bought a 2020 f150 for 21.3% off msrp and paid 4135 difference with a 2018 trade in Diff I’d option to option

But wanted a bed liner rubber to go,over the spray in box liner
local dealer who bought the truck from said 200 bucks and 3 months as not in stock on Canada

called around to other dealerships and the good folks in spruce grove said Leduc had 2 of them and that was almost all in stock in Alberta

called the Leduc store and in stock, they physically checked and price was 200

I said the price on ford.ca was 168.

they said ok we will march it

What a joke but got a neat rubber liner, not as heavy as I would like but ford logo and styling on it

From 200 to 168 in 11 seconds with a price check

no wonder most are called stealerships
