Putting my traps out shortly. It seems weird setting in beautiful weather like this but I'm not complaining. I doubt that I'll be able to stop myself from doing a check tonight......lol!

Thanks for all of the well wishes, folks. You guys probably know how much I've been looking forward to my first full season of trapping. I know that I asked enough questions on this forum and via pm's and I want to thank everyone for their advice and guidance........and for putting up with me.

Well, it was a nice day outdoors despite the wind and off and on rain. I got my 24 float sets out today, 12 x 110's and 12 x 1.5 stoploss. The sets with the 110's went in a drainage ditch (bank dens everywhere and trails up the banks into the fields) spaced about 50 yards apart. Those rats won't survive this winter so I'm going to clean them up before moving to a large slew in a few days. The other 12 sets went in the large slew.

After supper I have a spot that I want to put some colony traps in and I'll check my sets in the ditch at the same time. I'll skip checking the slew tonight because I had to pull my little jon boat all loaded up through most of it and it was rough going at times. During my checks tomorrow I'll be putting out more colony traps and a couple of submarine traps.

The amount of rats that I saw this Spring was ridiculous but I haven't been seeing many this Fall. They are there, and there should be a lot more, but either it's the weather or they are nocturnal, I don't know.

Anyway, life is good and I'm really happy to get going.

I only took one picture and it's not good quality but here is the drainage ditch. I'm standing at my last set in the string and you can see the approximate distance between sets......+500 yards of traps in a row? That ought to do it for that spot.

Dave you won't see many during the summer. They just started to show themselves the last couple weeks a bit more. I keep an eye on what is going on as I am out scouting bird hunts all day and put on 300+ KM a day looking at every pothole around lol

I figured that, thanks. This Spring there were so many swimming around me that I had to get out of the slew because I ran out of ammo and I thought that they were starting to get organized for an attack.

Tomorrow's check will tell the tale.
