2 NIB Winchester model 94 rifles (value?)
I have two NIB Winchester model 94 lever action rifles I would like to sell but have no idea what they are worth and am looking for advice on what they might be worth?
These rifles were actually a set of three with matching serial numbers, I only wanted one of the rifles but had to purchase the set to get the one I wanted. The three are as follows, a 1981 Canadian Pacific Railway Commemorative (the one I wanted), a 1980 Alberta Diamond Jubilee and a Saskatchewan Diamond Jubilee, all have the same serial numbers just a different prefix.
I opened up the CPR Rifle to inspect it, it had been unopened for almost 30 years...it was mint! The other two remain in the original shipping box unopened. They were all stored together over the years, never seeing the light of day.
Anyway, I'd like to sell the two remaining rifles I have but not sure what they are worth, should I keep them together due to the serial numbers or split them up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Trevor

X2 I'd want to open them up too! I think selling them as a pair would maybe get you the best $ value for them

Chances are, if a collector buys them, they will not see the light of day. It is a bit of a gamble, depending on how they were stored. Someone could open them and find them rusted....or they could be in perfect condition.
Regardless, I will give you $1000 for both, sight unseen.
My offer is good until midnite tonite.

Check out this website. It lists rough estimates on prices and how many of the specific firearm were made. Depending on if you have a standard or delux model the value ranges between $895-2500 for the Alberta and Saskatchewan and $645-750 for the CPR. A total of 300 Deluxe and 2700 Standard models were made for the Alberta and Saskatchewan with 2700 and 2000 for the CPR. Hope this helps! I would definately say that if they are in mint condition with all the paperwork and packaging intact you'd be looking at the high end of the scale. I found a Saskatchewan on an online gun auction and even being dinged up a little they were looking at over $1000 for it. Good luck

I see that they both 38-55's. That's the big old cartridge for the model 94.

I'm quite confident the condition of the two rifles still sealed in the box will be the same as the CPR rifle I opened. These rifles not only share the same serial number, they shared the same resting place for the last 30 years, under a farm house bed. I forgot to mention the Alberta rifle has a box of Alberta Diamond Jubilee cartridges as well (see pic)
I'm in absolutely no hurry to unload (pun) these rifles, just would like to get fair value for them so "huntinstuff" don't stay up past your bed time, I can get a grand for these all day long, that I'm aware of.
To those that provided some great info...thank you, it is greatly appreciated.

I would have jumped all over huntinstuffs offer. I have seen several of these sets where collectors and investors bought them thinking the prices would someday skyrocket. Have seen a few of them go for $700. if mint but many considerably less if used at all.
Saw a complete set of commemoratives (6 I think) sell to a collector for $3000. in near mint condition but they had been on display and did not have the original boxes.

During the Calgary gun show i bought a Brand new model 94 made in 1979 that was from an estate sale, for $500. this is a non saddle ring carbine and not any special edition. the gun is perfect not a scratch, nick or scrape.

As a set, they have far more appeal which equals value. Unfired, in boxes that are in good condition, with the commemerative ammo...top end in Canada would be $3000 for the set. Being that the Commemerative market is on life support up here, you'd be good to get 2500-2600.
I've seen quite a few CPR's and Jubilees (pick a province), and singly I have never seen one SELL for over 800 with a good condition box unfired.
JMO though.

Thanks shortmag, I did open the CPR rifle to check the condition, peeled back the wax paper it was wraped in...mint condition! Didn't even touch it lol, just looked at it. I was going to sell them and buy a gun for hunting this fall but decided to hang on to them for now. I did go get me a Sako 85 Hunter 300wsm though...it's so nice.
