Default My "Does it all" rifle

In the past 6 months I've sold about 6 rifles, last night I bought 1 back. A lightly used HS Precision Pro2000 SA in 300WSM. It came with a Swarovski 2.5x10x42 Habicht scope, 100 rounds of ammo, 50 new brass and 2 sets of dies. Bought it off a friend who purchased new in 2007. This leaves me with only 2 rifles left, I'm going for quality not quantity. This one is good from mice to moose, so much so, I'm contemplating selling my custom Sako 75, 340 Weatherby Mag too. What's your dream "Do it all rifle"? Or do you already own it?

I'll be having my do it all rifle built soon.

300wsm
Trued rem700 long action with M16 extractor milled in.
Wildcat ultralight KS hunter stock
Krieger sendero profile barrel 26" long
Trigger tech primary trigger I believe
Kwik clip bottom metal
Probably gonna top it with a NF NXS

My do it all rifle since 1989 has been my leftie Rem 700 barrelled in 340 Wby mag by the late Ron Propp.

With a controlled expansion 250 I can drive a bullet lengthwise through a moose or elk.

Keep the Sako 75!

My Tikka T3 Stainless in 30-06 and my Sako Quad in 17hmr/22LR are the only 2 rifles id ever really need if I had to get rid of the rest of the collection.

Id switch out the T3 for a Sako 85 Stainless Laminated... but no reason to as the T3 has always performed for me even with 3-9x40 4200 Bushnell scope on it. Scope has not moved or had any issues in 10 years of good use. If I did swap to a Sako 85 Id probably stay with the 30-06 caliber and throw a better scope on it.

Mine is a 7mm RM Browning Abolt Medallion w/ a Leupold 3-10 Vari-X 3. Only rifle I hunt with for big game. Never felt a need for anything else. Taken everything from coyotes to moose. I only shoot the 160gr Federal trophy Tip.

Just before I retired, I had a custom 7mmstw built, The action is a Stiller Predator, with an extended Wyatt magazine box, PTG bottom metal, Timney trigger, and a match grade, fluted barrel. This was pillar bedded into a McMillan McSwirly stock, and a Swaroski Z5-3.5-18x44 scope was mounted in Tally Lightweights.

My “does it all” rifle fir many years has been my custom built Single Shot Ruger in .303 Brit.
I am not a long range hunter and the .303 kills everything I Point it at out to 400 yards or so.

Mine are a pair of Model 70’s built by Mark Penrod and Bill Leeper. Both wear Echols Legend McMillan EDGE stocks. The Penrod (brown one) is a 280 soon turning 30-06, has Blackburn bottom metal, Penrod checkered bolt handle, checkered bolt release, and shotgun faced trigger. The Leeper (green stock) is a 7mm Mashburn, has Williams bottom metal, Steve Heillman bolt handle (Steve did the work), Echols Mag box and follower (holds four down), and a 24” Douglas #2 barrel.

Just when I think I have finally found a "do it all" rifle I find a weak link and find the need for another one;-) for me it's all about platform I could shoot just about one caliber for everything but platforms vary for hunting styles / areas and paper punching.

That's a lot of name dropping there chuck!
Nice guns.
I shoot a Remington 700 in a 7mag. Works pretty good until it misses.

I bought a Weatherby Lazermark in 270 weatherby this winter when I sold my motorcycle. I was agonizing what rifle to buy, and my wife told me to shut up and buy the pretty one. lol
So i did. I had a member here build a custom saddle scabbard for it so I can pack it sheep hunting and not beat it up against the saddle.
I use all my guns, and even though it has beautiful wood, it is still going to get used.
I will alway keep my custom 358 Norma mag, but it will only go out the odd time, the weatherby will get the call to do most of the hunting.
I was looking for a caliber that was not to big, but not to small, and this one fit the bill nicely.
I have found a load with 140gr Bergers and a load with 130gr BT that both shoot well under a inch, so I will not complain about that.

Its a shame 280 isnt more popular for factory ammo. It really does a great job delivering the 150gr bullet weights.

X2 25-06 is highly under rated my 100gr sciroccos moving along at a sizzling 3350fps do the trick on anything from elk down to light game paired with the 70gr blitskings at 3600 FPS for coyotes and prairie dogs it’s an all around death ray.

Model 70 300 Win Mag. Over the years it was slowly rebuilt; McMillan Wiseman barrel, Brown Precision stock, Zeiss scope. Action was trued and the stock trigger breaks clean at 3.5 lbs. Handloaded for years too but now just drop in Nosler Accubonds. Shoots as well as I can point.
That said - I have a 280 at Stuarts right now getting a new stock - I hope it will be the replacement. I've hunted with it for a few years but it needed a lighter stock.

Default KS Arms

I would walk into KS Arms and have them build me a 7 Rem Mag using their parts and a Wildcat stock.

[QUOTE=chuck;3997127]Mine are a pair of Model 70’s built by Mark Penrod and Bill Leeper. [QUOTE]

Bill leeper did all the metal work on mine as well Chuck, and the wood and did a superb job -except for the checkering which was done by Dennis Davidson.

I have owned a great number of single shots in my lifetime, but seem to gravitate towards the Ruger, and have always been a fan of the .303 British cartridge.
McGowan barrel with an excellent .303 Brit chambered with a reamer he used for his match rifles machined half round/half octagon with the rib milled into the top ,( not D&T'd), Brno front blade , NECG rear express sights ( rail added later), Kepplinger single set trigger, trigger guard altered all with a spetcaular bluing job
This rifle is to shoot!.

Default "does all" rifle

I am over the half century mark, and just can't even contemplate such a thing! I love my double rifles (love hunting the sxs doubles with hammers) and have always been a big fan of the odd and unusual (especially if they're big boomers!)
for many years before I hit the mid-life crisis, my "go-to" was the 338 wm and still own a few of these.
My dad was a huge fan of the 30-06 , and maybe the old man was right!
I own two blaser R8 rifles that I think are some of the greatest german technology ever invented and have made plain to friends that if I had to own just "one" i could make a blaser work! Further to that, it would be either a 9.3x62 or 30-06.
I am finally at the stage that I have started doing the odd international hunt. for this, I have always fealt that something chambered in the 375 HH would be the only gun a person ever needed.
Until I overcome these terrible indecisions, I will continue to suffer the problems of discovering just which gun would be the "does-all" of which you speak

One rifle in Alberta for hunting everything is a simple 300 WSM for me .
Winchester mod 70 in a plastic stock is all what I need .
I have 3 mod 70 in a different calibers and all of them with a bit of tuning like bedding, trigger work and target crown work shoot less then 1 MOA groups.
Leupold VX3 on a top of it and its an easy 600yds+ set up .

30 ought ftw. Loads anywhere from 125 to 220. Can buy shells anywhere, especially mom and pops in the middle of nowhere.
