Default Check your guns !!

Very high humidity lately. I opened up a gun cabinet to find a thin layer of surface rust starting on a 22 that I had cold blued. For some reason cold bluing is affected more than factory hot bluing. check your guns and wipe them down.

I have been running my dehumidifier in the gun room the past week. Having to empty it twice a day.

Default Cold blue?

I have to ask, did you flush the bluing (salts) off steel when finished in order to dilute the bluing?
If you haven’t then it’ll always corrode.

Yes. Rinsed it and soaked it in G96.

I keep open containers with dessicant in each safe.
Never needed that in 33 years of life in Fort McMurray. Sherwood Park is humid like a rain forest compared to McMurray.

I have a 120v dehumidifier rod in my safe never had any rust problems, it works by keeping the temperature a few degrees higher than ambient so rust can't form on metal surfaces.

Good heads up! Thanks for thinking to do it.

I have never had a rust problem in Alberta and I don't use desiccant or any kind of dehumidifier. Guns are wiped down with Hoppes 9 for storage. This year though, humidity is definitely much higher than usual. I have been checking them regularly but so far so good. You for sure don't want any stored in gun cases or the like with humidity this high.
