Default Tires

Looking at the following tires for all around off road use, daily driver, towing, and good mud clearance if anyone has suggestions:

Bfg all terrains
Wrangled duratracs
Cooper Stt pro
Nitto exp grappler and
Pro comp extreme mt2

Duratracks have been great on my f150 great in snow and mud, 25 thousand on em look new

Toyo Open Country AT2 Xtreme

I have 65,000km on mine and I'm only down to 12/32nds from 17/32nds and they do great in the mud and snow.

Hankook Dynapro 10 ply. I run them year 'round, on gravel and in the bush a lot of the time for work. They're nice and quiet on pavement as well.

Best tires I ever used, I've had several sets of them over the last 20 years or so. I won't even consider anything else anymore. (They used to be called "RF-O4"; it's the same tire.)

I have Bridgestone Duellers and are great tires but if you use to tow a trailer 85% of the time with any tire, do not expect them to last as long as you thought.....

Toyo Open Country AT are good.
BFG All terrains are good.
Goodyear Duratracs are good.

I have Duratracs on my truck (they go on sale quite often at Canadian Tire). Have about 50000km on them now and hardly notice any wear. Good off the pavement, decent in the winter, mind you they do seem more noisy than the other options I noted.

If your looking for a true MT, I've run several brands and have the STT pros on my ford right now. Had them 2 summers and very happy with them.
If you can find them in the right size, I also recommend Fierce mud terrains.

Put Duratracks on my truck 3 weeks ago. Good so far. Can't compare to the others because I haven't owned them. Did have a set of Toyo's on a 4 Runner back in 09/10 and was not impressed at all. Poor ice performance even in 4 wd.

If I'm not mistaken the duratracks are one of only 2-3 AT's that carry the severe service winter tire designation.

On my new 2017 Chev 2500HD , I just put on 285x60R20 Goodyear Duratracs.

Only tires I run on all of our trucks. Been running these tires since they come out around 2005/6ish. All our half ton trucks get 100-120K. We run about 60/40 ACP to Gravel. Rotate every 10 000 kms.


On my last 2500HD, I got 100 000km on first set, 85K on the second set (it was winter so I put a new set on-could of got another 10K) and the third set had 45-50K before I got my new truck 2 weeks ago.

Not overly loud tires, good wear, good in the mud and snow.

I will be buying another set for my stock wheels and run a studded pair this winter. Without the studs, they are a great winter tire.

That's my opinion

What tire pressure do you run on the 1/2 tons IFM? Dash indicator tells me I'm 272-285 kpa on my 20" depending on temp, but I have guys telling me they run them as low as 240 kpa.

I'm not a metric guy, arsehats flipped from Imperial when I was in my early 20's which is real nice of them, so if you converse in psi that's ok.

My '16 Ram 2500 Power Wagon came with the Duratracs and I have about 43,000 kms on them and they are about 50% done.

Like I said in the other tire posting going on I had them on my Jeep Wrangler as well but swapped them out since I found them too squirmy. I think it was due to them being a 35" tire and the side walls are only a 2 ply so with the tire pressure I had to run they didn't handle great. The new Nitto Ridge Grapplers made a world of difference on the jeep. What I will put on my truck before next fall...

FYI the phrase "good in mud" can vary mileage depending on the TYPE of damn mud. I hit some Darwell backroads gumbo I'd challenge Bigfoot to stay straight on recently. Once the treads on the Duratracs were jammed with that stuff it was every man for himself. Crap set like cement in my wheel wells and every other damn place it landed. You don't hose that stuff off. You "chip" it off with high pressure from 3 inches. Carwash dude was very impressed with what I left behind for him to clean. baha.

I've hit some beauty mud going from Grande Cache to the Sheep a time or two as well. Ugly, ugly stuff. I believe some call it owl snot.

I run 50-55 PSI. If pulling the trailers, then pumped up to 65psi

x2 came on my truck as stockers. Had 120k and then changed them out for Cooper AT3's. Wish I didn't. The Duellers AT-RHS were a much better tire all around. The other Duellers from what I have heard are not as good (different tread).

BFG KO2 are fantastic tires, in comparison to Duratrac's - I've found that KO2's are quieter, last longer, throw less rocks and mud, and don't suffer sidewall blowout.

I've ran Duratracs on my work truck for the last 5 years, they are the best tire I have ever used. Durable and all around traction. But a very pricey tire. I had to replace tires on my personal truck just last weekend and found Crappy tire had 50% off on Motomaster AT2's, got them for 130/tire. To good of a deal to turn down for a 1 ton load rated tire. Had them out hunting this Sunday and seemed great on the highway and gravel. Very little road noise and handled great.

I dunno what tires are on mine at the moment but get those. That's the answers you're gonna get here.
Everyone thinks the tires they have are the best or the worst.
There is no one perfect brand or model of tire and everyone has their own preference.
Just like they do on every single tire thread on any forum.

What's the best beer?

Actually you are wrong about that. Some of us have been around long enough and run enough different vehicles to try many different kinds of tires. The reason we are running what we are today is experience has taught us what is the best tire for a specific use. If I was in deep mud and rocks all day long, BFG Mud Terrain or another speciality tire would be the answer. It is what I run on the Toyota BJ- 40.

For a muli purpose tire on a 4x4 pickup, and after trying at least 8 different makes and multiple styles, Dura Track is what I run on my 3/4 ton. If I was running a blazer or other Heavy SUV it would be BFG All Terrain. On my wifes 4Runner I run Nokia Haks year round.

The right tire for a vehicle is NOT always the same thing, what you use the vehicle for has a big effect on the tire to recommend.

I'm running the Cooper SST Pro's and love them. I have 72,000km and will probably need a new set in another 10,000ish km. Under my diesel they have been the longest lasting tires, with the Nitto's being dead last and Toyo a close second for last. I didn't get 30,000km out of my Nitto Mud Grapplers.

Canadian Tire is putting Duratracks on sale. Sale starts SEpt 22nd. Example 235-85-16 sale price is $199 a skin, regular $269. This is about $95 less than fountain and $50 less than Costco

I've run most of those including Dick Cepek FC II's and the duratracks stand out as the better tire no question. There is a reason you see them on nearly every truck in the patch. Low noise, smooth ride, awesome traction in all conditions and can expect a min of 75k with regular rotations. I find them particularly great on snow and ice. Its all my wife and I run on our trucks now and we rack up over 160k annually between the two of us.
Just my experience though. Others may have a different perspective or experience.

I've been running K02's for a year and wouldn't hesitate to purchase them again. The only down side is they fling rocks and chip paint, crack others windshields. They won the baja 👍

Am hearing that the duratrac gets terrible loud after 15-20 k km. Probably a lot more noticeable for those on the pavement and not so when on gravel.
Any comment ???
ANybody running the Nokia hakka LT off pavement ??

I'm Montana State Game Warden and our agency runs a mix of 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks. I'd say that 95% of our fleet is running Wrangler Duratracs both summer and studded in winter. That doesn't just include our Enforcement Division but our Fisheries Parks and Wildlife folks. In fact I just picked up a brand new set of studded Duratracs for winter. With several hundred vehicles, our fleet managers are pretty sticky on what they choose to outfit our vehicles with as $$ doesn't grow on trees. My truck is a F250 with a flatbed for hauling bison etc... I just got the truck so I don't know how long the current tires have lasted but I haven't had any issues other than backing up a hill in soft dirt in 2wd. I either have to parallel the road and go drive up and out or put it in 4x4.

The USFS LEO's around here used to run Cooper SST's. I don't know if they still are but they spend just as much time off road as on and were having good luck with them. I'll have to check next time I see my buddy what they're running.

My personal truck I run Firestone and have been very happy with them for the 4 years I've had them on. But I will refrain from going into them too much as they aren't on your list.
