Default recovering an impounded vehicle

ill start this off by saying this is not my vehicle. i travel by a towing yard everyday on my way to work. ive noticed a damaged truck that has sat there untouched for upwards of a year. ive phoned the towing company about the status of it, which they pointed me towards the government. i would potentially be interested in the truck if there was somehow a way to purchase it. anyone ever dealt with something like this?

I would think it would have to go through an auction to be purchased.

It may be part of an ongoing investigation, Hence it hasn't went to auction after a year in impound.

Get the VIN, go to registries, see if there is a lien and contact the vehicle owner
