Go with the one you are most proficient with for the style of hunting you intend to do.

Why handicap yourself with those options?

Hunt with the one you like the most , any of them will work.

Man, some cool choices there for sure. I have a real soft spot for the 45/70 and the 1886 is a true classic. You can't go wrong with any of your choices. Best of luck!

Every moose I've ever shot was with a .280 Rem. They're all dead.

They'll all penetrate. With authority. Biggest question is what do you expect the farthest shot to be? Are you willing to go home empty handed if the only one you see is at 300 yds? How bad do you need moose meat? These factors would all play into what gun a hunter should be using. I shot my last moose with a 30-30 and this year I'll be rockin the Hawken 50 (providing there won't be any forest fires where I plan to be). I expect shots to be under 100 yds due to the dense cover so big firepower not needed.

If you may have a bit longer shots and moose tags are getting further apart like most draws I'd take the 350 and cause it's cool. Is it a mk2 ss?

Didn't get my moose draw this year, but pretty confident for next year. I'll be using my .280 Rem, any bullet recommendations or experiences? Maybe will help the OP out as well for his bullet selection...
OP, your 45-70 sounds like a classic choice

My friend who will be my hunting partner at Camp Wainwright, will be using his 6.5x55 with the 130gr Accubond. I will be using my 7mmstw with the 150gr TTSX.

Of the three, the 350 would be my choice. Easily.

How bout you build a special for this event Rifle.
You're supposedly a gunsmith, on this forum after all.
You know a good thread could come out of it, with lotsa pictures, and explanations as to how or why.......it'd be a nice departure from the recycled this vs. That threads.

I got drawn for moose this year also and I will be packing my 7mm RM,I have bin shooting 168 gr. LRAB in it and I am sure they would be fine for moose, but thinking of working up a load with 175 gr partitions for it.It would be nice if they both shot fairly close but I highly doubt it.

I got drawn form moose this year, if I don't get one with my bow I'm hoping my 6.5 Creedmoor will be here by then to do the job. Otherwise it'll be my 280ai.

If you shoot the moose through the heart, does it really matter the size of the cartridge?

It sure the heck does!
When 80% of the hunters out there couldn't put their first shot into a basket ball at 75 yds.

Well considering the vital zone on a moose is ~18" and a basketball is only 9 1/4" that shouldn't give you to much issue inside 100 yards.
Also accuracy doesn't count in hypothetical statements.
OP i vote for the custom option for the occasion. If not any will do just fine.

That's what people need to work on. I agree with your analogy of the basket ball. I practice it all sorts of shooting positions in order to be ready for that one shot that you never thought you'd have to take to make a clean kill. The size of the cartridge will not make you a better hunter nor will it make up for hitting it somewhere other than the kill zone.

I really do like your Custom Build option. Maybe we should start giving the OP suggestions for his new build?
